Media made SURE to destroy Nate Parker's chances and I don't know of any other Black actors/actresses/directors who will be getting any love this awards season so it's a wash this year.

#Oscarssowhite part 2 coming up

Moonlight is making some waves so that could be the Academy's replacement "black" recognition movie.

*edit: @woof already beat me to it.

Denzel is definitely getting at least nominated for Fences too.

It's not going to be a coli favorite, but Moonlight is lining up to possibly pick up a few big nominations (director, Harris in supporting, picture, etc) as well.

*edit: @woof already beat me to it.

I agree that Moonlight could be the biggest beneficiary of the Nate Parker backlash towards Birth of A Nation.
Its got a young black director and all the early reviews are heaping tons of praise on Naomi Harris and the three actors playing the lead character through different phases of his life.

I could see the movie getting a Best Picture nomination (especially if it does well at the box office) but I doubt Parker gets any noms for acting, writing or directing.
He could still get writing IMO. If this doesn't carry we still have six months.

Nocturnal Animals took the Grand Jury Prize (2nd place essentially) at Venice and Emma Stone got Best Actress for La La Land. That's more recognition for American movies than usual at Venice.:russ:

I'm surprised Live By Night isn't getting more serious consideration...All 3 movies that Ben Affleck has directed have been critic favorites, Argo won Best Picture for 2012 and the trailer for Live By Night looks really good -

The room was filled with people how invested in the movie so...
But Fox wants this discussion right now instead of around the Oscars.

No trailer for Nocturnal Animals so far?

Fair enough, but still I think he could have a shot. after all it's Hollywood. But the question is will this linger until the globes?
Nah. Acting winners from Venice rarely win the Oscar, even if English-speaking.

FOX Searchlight just picked up Jackie, which means Natalie Portman and her 95 minutes of pure AMPAS bait probably now have Best Actress on lock too. :sadcam:

Viola Davis really should consider committing that category semi-fraud and dropping back to supporting.
Smh at Jackie, that film is not better then lala land at all.
