Same goes for shooters were enemies always pop up at the same spot retry after retry. Like there were games in the 00's that pulled off more dynamic AI, why the fukk are we still dealing with that super basic scripted shyt in 2014?

you could do more when most of the games budget and resources wasn't being wasted on purty hd graphics.

I know people are just gonna call me a fanboy for saying it, but these are the exact types of things Microsoft is talking about with "the cloud"

Dynamic and persistent A.I. and worlds. That's one of the things insomniac talks about with sunset overdrive. Being able to adapt the A.I. And the world on the fly as people play and learn new strategies.

I agree with the OP. I don't believe the next gen is here at all. I don't know man, maybe if we see some serious next gen games come out but right now everything seems rushed. I haven't seen anything that cannot be reproduced (low-res) on the current gen systems (360, PS3). Hell half of the games that are coming out are still good on the current gen. I'm just not seeing the reason right now to make the jump.
i haven't played any of them except infamous, but that game definitely can not be done on a PS3. if the gameplay wasn't so dependent on the particle engine you could because you could simply dumb it down, but yea. no particle effects, no infamous second son. that joint would fry a ps3

The same could be said about the ps2 and xbox..all last gen games could have ran on those systems with lower textures.

you'd have to lower everything else besides particles.

thats true, but the game depends on particles. therefore you couldn't do the same game

quiet as kept knack could not be done on a ps3 for the same reason. that is basically a particle physics tech demo for ps4

It could be done but it would have to be coded differently. The individual particles would have to be faked. Wouldn't change much from a gameplay standpoint, but it would be less impressive on a technical level.

And I think that's why people are claiming that the games aren't "next gen"

Changes this gen will be a lot more subtle, but they actually need a lot more processing power to pull off. Kinda like what's going on with watchdogs. The wind and particle/water physics are something that couldn't be done on PS360 and make for a much more immersing experience. But they can be faked somewhat to give ps360 a similar experience.

from what i can see, people are saying that because of the graphics. the graphics are definitely not anything to write home about YET.

the particles have to be faked is my point exactly. those neon trails would have to be drawn like cartoons and made to work in game...and made to work every time the player presses a button...and made to look dynamic based on the environment each time... that is pretty much impossible breh

youre right though, im kind of looking at it thru developer eyes. very subtle or non-existent from a laymen standpoint until you point it out. i heard so many bad things about knack. when i played the demo in best buy i was bugged out. i think i came very close to drooling. ive never seen anything like that, on that level...mgs 4 had the smoke bombs and shyt like that but not close to as many and as frequent or intense as knack

And that's my problem so far. Right now it's all talk (outside of maybe Forza but I haven't heard much about that). If games start to pull this off successfully, I will applaud it. But as long as it's talk, it's nothing more than talk to me.

It's been shown in both Forza and TitanFall in different ways. And it's been demonstrated on stage at different events. It's much more than just talk at this point.

Console wars makes it so these things are downplayed maybe that's why you "have not heard much"

I kinda agree.

I love my Ps4 though, but nothing has felt like a great leap forward yet. The graphics have been impressive at times though, those definitely have a next gen look on certain games.

But of all the games I played, the most fun I had with is Rayman Legends, Outlast and AC4.

Infamous is a lot of fun too, just haven't had the time to really sit down and enjoy it, baby on the way and moving with the lady has taken up a ton of time
