I’ve always said I feel wise when I listen to an AZ album

Watching this interview——and seeing the title you chose ——really shows how far left we’ve veered. Nggas don’t even notice that cats nowadays speak in clickbait, gossipy, antagonistic ways. It takes seeing someone like AZ who’s not in the matrix not trying to impress etc to see how weird nggas have become in comparison
The only reason I listened was for AZ. These guys are some goofs. They play all the paparazzi games.

I try to support all the rappers and fans making rap shows. But, this is why Hip-Hop needs real journalists.

Kweli and Questlove have great podcasts where they show respect and build rapport naturally with their guests. Not to mention their own musical knowledge and experience bringa mutual respect. No forced chatty patty shyt.

Not to mention that anybody with a brain knows The Firm flopped way back in 1997. Nobody has ever been clamoring for another Firm album. We realize it should have been executed better. Only someone who wasn’t there or doesn’t truly know what he’s talking about would take that fake fanboy angle.

I think there would be legit excitement if Nas, Foxy, Mega and AZ linked up with Dr Dre and did it the right way like they wanted back in 97 but again, that takes money and everybody being on the same page. Dr Dre ain’t putting aside time to craft beats for a Firm album in 2023 lets be honest and Nas ain’t doing it either because the money and budget to make it happen wouldn’t be there.

Big budget collaboration albums aren’t a thing anymore in Hip Hop. Hell we can barely get duos and groups to stay together past an album or two these days. The business doesn’t call for it and fan demand isn’t there. Ross and Meek Mill just sold 30K, Wayne and Chainz did like 32K, which isn’t bad for them in 2023 at all but imagine having to split those meager streaming earnings FOUR WAYS. shyt would be laughable

Saw AZ in Harlem one time and said nodded what’s up he had something in his hand but used his forearm to give a dap and hug . I was like yo this nikka smoove as hell :ohhh:
Down to earth. Man, hard to find nowadays. Harkens back to an older time before the internet ruined folks. AZ the type dude won’t change his values or principals for no amount of money and is good eating well but doesn’t see it as a failure not to do any and everything for the millions. Gotta respect that. Only the real understand.

Yea, I think if they announced that another Firm project would be coming to fruition it would conjure up some interest for sure. I just know damn well ain’t nobody out here begging for The Firm 2. But to be fair, I think a Nas/DJ Premier project would still be dope AF after all these years but also realize there isn’t a big interest in that heading into 2024 :flabbynsick:

nahhhh Imma disagree with ya'll. I love AZ as an artist, but dont show up to a platform like this and give 5 word responses then act like everybody else is the weirdo. He never seen the show before?

You weren't ambushed at the mall by TMZ my nikka... you pulled up, voluntarily, for a sit-down conversation. Let's not act like every episode is on some chatty patty shyt too. One of my favorite episodes of MEO was Mic Geronimo's. I walked away feeling like I knew breh more as a human being.

This is an opportunity where as a man, you can show vulnerability, talk about your wins/losses, mental health, speak on life lessons for the next generation, etc.

I do agree Math and Mecca could have asked better questions...Bag Fuel episode was a bit better, but both were disappointing imo.

They were completely unprepared for the AZ interview. The Mic Geronimo was done by the old MEO crew. Hynaken would plan out the questions prior to each interview.

The current iteration of MEO is completely lackluster. Unfortunately, it’s probably going to remain this way, because the current guys are probably just happy to be there.

Pretty much this

Interview questions weren't great but AZ was disengaged from the gate and his BagFuel interview was only slightly better, it wasn't that compelling either

AZ is a great artist but he just is a boring interview I think. It happens.

I hate to say this but Vlad would have a much better interview because atleast he’ll stick with the timeline. Of course he’s going try to turn it into a Nas interview at some point, but I think his timeline approach makes for a better interview.

“AZ welcome to Vlad TV, since this is your first interview, let’s start from the beginning, so you were born in Brooklyn, is that correct?”

Say what you want about Vlad, but he's been doing this for 15+ years. He really knows what he's doing. Now, he has the issue of chiming in too much with his personal opinions but that's usually when it's with his regulars like Boosie. When it's 1 and done type interviews, it follows a very detailed timeline.

It makes no sense, dude just talking to talk. I hate how he constantly just disrespects guests with these weird statements or questions. Also asked if AZ was a recluse. Is this how you treat a legend?
lol in Mecca's defense it's always done out of appreciation. But he definitely can get borderline disrespectful with his basic ass "advice". Like these guys really need Mecca to tell them to drop an album...

Vlad is definitely irritating, but one of the few interview platforms I can actually watch.

He would have came prepared and went through the timeline and that would have been good enough for AZ fans. We know he’s a private guy.

I’m just tired of the same formula of the life’s a bytch verse, first record deal, firm album, and then turn it into a Nas interview trying to get his opinion on ether. You would think AZ’s career lasted 3-4 years listening to these interviews.

Let's be honest AZ is only relevant because of Nas. Same with Cormega but at least Cormega carved out his own lane. AZ has been in mediocrity his whole career.

Man I was skipping through the interview and got to a part where Mecca asked how come you weren't on more albums people wanted you on. You could tell AZ was annoyed by the question but he played along and asked which albums. And Mecca said OB4CL lmao. Up to that point, no non-Wu member had been on their albums. Nas was the first to do it on that album. So why would anyone in 1995 expect AZ to be on there, or be disappointed that he wasn't? It makes no sense, dude just talking to talk. I hate how he constantly just disrespects guests with these weird statements or questions. Also asked if AZ was a recluse. Is this how you treat a legend?

Haven't watched yet but people are morons and just say shyt to say shyt without actually putting any thought into what they are even saying. It's obviously not up to a guest artist what albums they feature on, the artist putting out the album has to want to collab with them. Why he would ask that dumb shyt is beyond me.

All these failed NY rappers turned podcasters are lame IMO. They all turned into Wendy Williams trying to bait rappers into saying some slick shyt they can twist and use for clicks b/c their careers floundered or barely got off the ground. They're failing at interviewing our greats as well. That's why we need real journalism that can actually conduct an interview where you feel like you can learn something about that artists afterwards. So many missed opportunities when it comes to our legends going on these shows.
