I see this will inevitably turn into a church/religon bashing thread.
I'm out.

Yeah this is an accounting/finance issue more so than a church thing. The article also mentioned that banks are reluctant to refinance the loan, kind of leaving the church with no choice but either to pay, foreclose or try to find another bank that will refinance for better terms.

They were key places meeting places during the Civil Rights movements, and like @Poitier said, they provide a backbone to the community that's been over shadowed the few cases where churches have been used as a business to make money rather than to uplift.

The civil rights movement was in the 60s. All the civil rights leaders of that time have been dead for decades. What has been the positive impact since then?

What bad have they done?

They've taken 420 billion dollars from the black community over the last 30 years and we have nothing to show for it.

Very sad. If my church were to go under today, the community services FREE OF CHARGE to ANYONE that would disappear include: foodbank, low-income tax services, operation christmas gift, operation back to school bags, holiday community dinners, community bbq (twice a year), prison ministry, street ministry.. I could go on. The community my church serves is VERY diverse. We are beside a jewish community center and a school that has a large muslim population and they come for the dinners. We are a small church (300 members at most) but we offer services faithfully. I bet the same ones laughing sit their lazy butts at home when people like me are handing out food and helping people file their taxes.

Maybe it's because I went to Catholic school or something, but this isn't something that should be celebrated. A lot of churches do really good work for the community. People see some ignorant patrons in church and assume that it's wide spread throughout the church. I still believe church helps more than it hurts.

It absolutely needs to be celebrated IMO. Black people in America have no business being Christians. That's the religion of our slave masters.

I can't say church has done more good than bad but there are good things that churches provide for the community....the thing is a community center can replace a church and basically do the same shyt without the God part...the religion aspect of church is very outdated imo....why can't we sing and have lectures about improving our lives in a community center?

Because nobody is building community centers.

Breh, I went to church with my girl once and there was a damn helicopter in the front of the church and the pastor's wife drove a bentley :mjlol:

That's a damn good hustle. Can't fault no pimp/pastor for getting it in :mjlol:

A lot of the loans they are taking out have balloon payments. So you make smaller payments and at the end of the loan term a bigger payment/balance is due. I don't think people are handling the accounting/budgeting correctly and aren't forecasting that larger payment into the plan.
I understand mortgages, balloon payments, etc. What I dont understand is where is the money...

You literally can't lose unless you (a.) stole the money or (b.) "misappropriated" the money
