@Skip2

Are you Skip? You ready for a neg train?
:mjlol:
Walter Payton
Jim Brown
Barry Sanders

In that order. I wouldn’t be mad if anybody had the three in a different order as long as you don’t put Emmitt Smith amongst the GOATs
:russ:

Skip is a dufus, but he is not wrong Walter Payton at number 1. Walter Payton is not only the best overall running back of all time in NFL history (he retired with the rushing yards, receptions by a running back and touchdown records), but he is probably the best overall football player in NFL history. He never played with an all pro quarterback, wide receiver or tight end. The only offensive linemen that he played with that made the pro bowl were Jay Hilgenberg and Jim Covert, but they didn't make their first pro bowls until 1985 when Payton was in his 10th season (Payton entered the NFL in 1975).

Walter Payton was also the best blocking running back and the best receiving running back in NFL history when he retired. He had had 492 catches for 4,538 yards and 15 touchdowns, which is amazing because the Bears didn't throw the ball that much but when they did throw they threw it to Payton. Marshall Faulk eventually broke Payton's receptions record for running back. Walter Payton was also the Bears backup punter, back up field goal and Bears emergency quarterback. Payton had 8 touchdown passes and zero interceptions. The most insane thing about Walter Payton's career is that he only missed 1 game.

Barry was not overrated.

The only thing I took exception to was that everyone always said he had no offensive line. Was it the best line? No.
But people in the 90s used to swear Barry would get 3,000 yards a season if he had the Dallas Cowboys line. That was always ridiculous.

Barry Sanders played behind a much better offensive line than Payton did. Sanders also played with better quarterbacks and receivers than Payton did. That is why so many NFL players had such high praise for Payton. Lawrence Taylor just straight up said Walter Payton and Jim Brown were it.
