The Minny pick they got from the Clippers was projected to be a #1 overall pick at the time. Eric Gordon was one of the best young players in the league. In hindsight, Rivers wasn't a great pick and Gordon got hurt. But if we are going to use hindsight, they ended up with Anthony Davis because of that deal.

The proposed Lakers trade just dumped big contracts on the Hornets.
So basically what you are saying is in hindsight the lakers trade was better but in hindsight the clippers trade made them bad enough to get AD. All I know is the main motivation behind the veto was the owners not trying to let the lakers get cp3. If Dan Gilbert's letter didn't go public there'd be an arguemnt but it's clear what went down. I'm out

If the Hornets were in "win now" mode, then yes the Lakers trade was better. But if you're capped out and Kevin Martin is your best player you have no present and no future.

Being a top 10 pick doesn't mean anything if you aren't good. You think the lakers would trade Clarkson for Bennett just because Bennett was the number 1 overall pick? No cause he's trash. James young was a lottery pick but doesn't even have the trade value of a second rounder already cause he sucks. The lakers trade had legitimate better players. And you conveniently left out Dragic who at the time was considered one of the best young Pg options in the game. Let's be real the trade was about not letting the lakers get CP3. Plan and simple. The owners weren't having that. It was not about making the hornets better or getting a better deal.

Eric Gordon was coming off a 22 ppg season at age 23. I'm not sure if Bennett scored 22 points in his career, nor has James young. WOAT comparisons. The hornets didn't get better or built anything for the future with the Lakers offer. What would Kevin Martin or Luis Scola have provided the hornets?

Lakers didn't get a superstar free of charge for once and still salty 5 years later. Focus your minds on the 17 win team and Mozgov

Stern and Silver have 2 completely different MOs. this shot would not slide with stern. He wanted competitor balance. Silver is on record basically saying that's not a goal of his and it won't happen

You casuals bring up the veto trade every year how hard is it to understand that the league owned the hornets back then they had every right to veto the trade even if silver wanted to block this trade he couldn't why because the league doesn't own the Warriors or thunder...now fukk up about the lakers nobody cares
