you dont have a problem with a black man being taken advantage of by racist cacs for 5 decades?
I have a problem with a buncha spoiled brats posting from their cushy office jobs calling him a c00n and whatever else to make fun of him for it.

Hes 72. This all he know. Dudes a busboy. Never wanted to be anything MORE than a busbiy. I cant work 60 minutes somewhere without thinking i could do better. He worked 60 YEARS. what exactly would you reccomend be done here. What you want him to own the joint? Go buy it for him then and make him boss. Idk what you want.

Sadly as a black person who was born and raised on the North Side of Chicago (lincoln park and Gold Coast) the shyt is common and has gotten worse over the last 20 years.

Also I will not knock the brotha Othea Loggan for his job or hard work. See many black folks (my grandmother included) worked labor jobs, serving white folks. In order to support their family, put their kids in school and send their grand kids to college.

I will be damned if I shyt on a hard working elderly black man cause he got a labor job. Especilly when my own grandmother was a maid and her sisters (my aunts who the story of the help is based on in greenville Mississippi). shyt my aunts cleaned white folks houses so they could send their kids to places like Jackson St and Miss Valley to get degrees.

Even my wifes grandfather worked multiple jobs cleaning up for white folks so he could feed his family and chip in to send his grand kids to college.

So all in all I ain't gonna disrepect brotha Othea. But I will salute him for busting his ass to take care of his kids and grand kids.

I feel you on that my grandparents worked blue collar jobs too and were from the South. But that alone is why I believe "work hard and you'll get whatever you want in life" shyt that gets preached is a fallacy. We KNOW AND LOVE people who've worked hard and aint got shyt to show for it after loyalty and working hard for a company. Look out for yourself, treat people with respect, stack ya paper and try to build wealth

Asked why, after so many years, he never asked management for a less demanding job, why he stayed at the same pancake house so long, Loggan doesn’t register the question, as if those questions hadn’t been there in a long time. Ray Walker said he’s asked Loggan about advancing but “Loggan doesn’t want anything else — he’s said he’s fine where he is.” He said, “I think he views this as a place where he knows people, he’s safe and comfortable.” He said Loggan “was the complete opposite of a Black Panther kind of guy,” never an advocate or rabble rouser. He said that limited schooling “probably helped smooth out his world — I would doubt Loggan really ever dreamed about buying a Cadillac.”

There are so many quotes in this article that make me cringe

Exactly why hate a black man in his 70s who probably left the south during the great migration. To come up north for a better life and to support a family.

Brotha probably doesn't even have a high school education and knowing many blacks history in the North and especially from chicago. I bet he came from places like Alabama, Mississippi or Tennessee and came from a schare cropping family.

I hear what you saying breh but there were a lot of black folks who came up from those same places that attended Dunbar, Wendell Phillips, Hyde Park, Englewood, and Lindbloom and went on to attend HBCU’s or one of the city universities.

It’s not so much his work ethic but the fact that he was comfortable with not wanting more. You yourself said you had relatives that did housework but they did it to send their kids to college. They wanted more for their children.

This dude has his grandson working there too....for 15 years at that. He doesn’t want more and he doesn’t see anything wrong with that thinking....in effect, passing that complacent attitude down to his children and grandchildren. That’s the issue I have.
