I don't think Kurt's 5 decent years in the E should put him ahead of Bret, and anything I've seen of his in TNA run has been cookie cut.

I would go as far to say that Kurt has more classic matches than Bret imo. In no way am I saying that Bret sucks but I cosign Kurt doing everything hitman does better.

Hell I would say Kurt in tna>>>Bret in WCW by far.

He was Bret Hart and apparently got a BIG CONTRACT..one that Hogan looking disgusted on that DVD. If he wanted to be on TV in a major, he could of pushed it through by WANTING it. That's the difference between guys like him and Austin/Rocks....they couldn't be stopped. Rock shouldn't be who he is. He was, at most, supposed to be midcard face in the eyes of the company but he went to Ross and was turned heel. Then he went buck wild with every opportunity he got. Bret was content to be US Champion and be involved in some wack shyt. The drive and want wasn't there...if they didn't want to play ball, he should of just went home and collected big checks because his legacy and outlook was looking shaky by being involved with Warrior tag team matches and that type of nonsense.

@dbp said most of what I was going to say, relating to the book excerpts.

I'd also like to add that we aren't talking about a 27-32 year old Bret Hart that jumped ship to WCW in his prime. The guy was 40 looking for a few good years where he could make an impact, then chill in a corporate roll. No drive would have been able to overcome the political clusterfukk of WCW with Bischoff turning to Hogan for final booking approval. Not to mention he had to make amends with both Flair/Hogan just to avoid getting backstabbed. Hogan feared he would exploit him, and it showed with the constant "with NWO/not with NWO" hot potato storylines they put him through.

Comparing him to Rock/Austin is apples to oranges as those guys were hitting their prime years. Where were their drives at 40? Austin, took his ball and went home numerous times, then eventually retired. The Rock? Coming back after a 7 year hiatus. Both now returning (Austin pending) to stamp their legacy officially. I'm not knocking them (both in my top 5) but being objective. Bret already had his 20 years of work cemented that he didn't care to being pushed as the top guy in WCW. Despite his persona he portrays of feeling entitled, he was a team player (MTL screwjob excluded.) I'm sure making 3 mil/year to finish his career made it easy and laughable on his part to work with whatever forgettable reigns they could give him (US title/Tag titles with Goldberg and his eventual World Title victory at Mayhem.) I'd be sitting in the stands too, like he did on Thunder.

The latter I would agree with, but I was talking more about their runs in the E.

As far as the former, I guess we'd have to stack up the classics. Those two in a bout is easily my dream match, as I've mentioned before. Shame we couldn't see it.

Always try to be objective on here but the random hate this guy gets out of nowhere is baffling. I hate the feeling of stanning, this is what it's like to be R=G eh?

Bret's not even close to being in my top 20-30 favorite wrestlers.

But at the end of the day this all personal opinion :yeshrug:

That's alright, same for me when it comes to Hogan/Flair. All opinion/preference though.

Tragic that we never got Hart/Angle. Match could've been one of the greatest of all-time. I think if Bret never suffered the concussion/stroke, we would've gotten it because I think if Bret felt he could still go, he would've been open to working with WWE earlier. Out of all the dream matches that have never happened, that's #1 on my list.

Bret is the GOAT to me. Hogan is #2 (even if I hate what he's become in the last 10 years). After that, it gets harder to pick.

Also mentioned in his book is the Goldberg plate angle. That's the one angle he said he really enjoyed, and it went over well. I bet if he got to do stuff like that more often in WCW, his experience and impact would've been much greater.

The more anecdotes that come out over time, the more I realize that WCW was a FAR bigger clusterfukk than we even realized, and that's saying something :pachaha:

Eddie vs Bret would of been better because it's always been better than Kurt. Kurt does everything Benoit does but more spot like. It's easy to know his matches just off the top of your head. He goes a little silly with that ankle lock reversion over and over again too.

And to think he had to go back and forth between Bischoff-Hogan-Goldberg that evening, because of broken telephone, just to get it approved. :smh:

Your right. He was intelligent enough to take the money when Vince turned on him.

As for catalogs? Just depends on what you like. He had good tag work and of course the IC stuff with Perfect and British Bulldog. Bret Hart is a cult like figure in wrestling history but some of the negatives add to his legacy over what he contributed.

Lol at Bret not being top 5. You my dawg for real but this some bullshyt.

Bret only had 9 years as a singles competitor and the only ones i'd say that was better than him if you take everything about wresting into account is Hogan, Austin, The Rock and that's it.
