I think the total opposite is going to happen I think Russell Wilson is going to ball out and Justin Fields is going to be stuck in the backup role. It was a game of chicken, why would I give up any sort of substantial pick when I know :

- youre drafting a QB at 1
- you want to avoid the awkward situation of both being in the building at the same time
- Fields realistically has 1 year left on his deal because no one is picking up that 5th year option based on his current resume (The Darnold Panthers trade killed this scenario moving forward)

Chicago had no leverage and everyone knew it, better to rip the bandaid off and move on rather than create unnecessary drama dragging it out.

That makes it a even dumber trade for Pittsburgh. Are they going to sign him to an extension next year? Some team out there might be more desperate for a qb next year. He could probably demand 20-30 mil from somebody. Steelers going to pay him that without ever seeing him play this season. Looks like Russ being treated like shyt again.

They wouldnt have been so decimated at WR to get the number one pick. Even if Pickens is less than DJ Moore (who had a career year with Fields) they still wouldnt have been top 3 bad this year to pick a QB.

Russ had the absolute worst year of his career in 2022, he was so bad people were saying he was completely washed and thought he was on his way out the league and that season was comparable to Fields' entire trash ass career

Not a single fukking soul knew who Nico Collins was until CJ Stroud was throwing him the ball making him look like a Pro Bowler. You don't need an All Pro team for a QB to look at least decent.
People were out there picking him to win the fukking MVP before the start of last season, now it's some he had no help shyt

Its really bizarre. People were shytting on Russ hard and he had Jeudy, and still had considerably better numbers than fields last year.

Ive watched every snap JF ever took for the bears. I dont think hes the worst qb ever but the same issues he had day one, he has year 3. And dumb ass bears fans act like he needs a avengers tier cast to be a DECENT passer. Got to move on

Hurts had one good yr and got $250M from that

Fields will get bargain deals for the rest of his career because he likely will not get an opportunity to play in Y4 and will miss a normal extension for QBs after their 3rd or 4th season

Steelers gonna treat this man like Slash

Fields fukked up his own financial future by being a bottom 3rd QB for 3 years. Every team with some sort of opening (I'll exclude Minnesota since that trade wasn't realistic) went in another direction. Extending Fields and flipping that #1 pick for a kings ransom in back to back years is literally the type of scenario that sets up a 5+ year stretch of high level football, double digit wins and repeated playoff appearances. The fact that they're pivoting is a testament to how disappointing his 2023 was, same exact guy who holds onto the ball forever and takes back breaking sacks because he can't process quick enough.

He'll have his chance at the Geno, Baker, etc - arc of competing for a job and turning that into more in 2025, might even come earlier than that if Russ gets hurt and/or struggles, but Justin is what he is right now.
