yep. I had a boss who used to say "Perception is reality". It's damn true. Doesn't matter you're not actually trying to take his job or overshadow him. Its what he thinks you're doing.
Also reading parts of your story again, I'm always careful of telling other black folks that things might not be about race, but from everything you said, I'm leaning towards this just being a bitter threaten by the new younger and slimmer model. Like I said, I know the pain.

Ask to talk to him privately and say this "You and I have got off on the wrong foot. I do my job well, damn well. So sir, I want to know what is the issue you have with me and see we can work it out." Say this slowly and look him right in the eye.

If the cocksucker doesn't change after you had a man to man, look for another job and tell him to go fukk himself on the last day. Miserable old people like this make work so much more worse when you have to interact with them.

You need to toughen up nikka. Don't listen to these lames talking about 'find a new job'. Confront him and take him on. Go to HR, talk to him in private telling him you don't like the way he talks to you and if he persists, talk back. You might end up losing the battle but it builds character for the future because trust me you'd be facing people like that throughout your career.
