If anything the fact that you have people who will always stick by you no matter what, because of your blood, while a gay person has no refuge until they are able to find courage and come out makes being gay seem pretty hard.
I used to not think they were similar as well, but then I had a very close friend of mine come out and basically state that he feels just as impacted by his sexuality as he does his race. Your average person may not be able to see it, but there are some pretty big psychological effects. From the time you are a girl/boy, you are always bombarded with the obligation (if you're gay) or expectation of be married to someone of the opposite sex. That can create some extreme internal conflicts when you're going through puberty or through life in general trying to figure out how to cope with something you've felt your whole life being seen as wrong. And if you're closeted, you pretty much have no one to talk with and share those feelings and you're basically a shell of a whole human because you can't act like everyone else and just be yourself. There is no safe zone for you. I can come home to my black family and express my concerns, gays basically have to bottle all of that up 24/7 and even when they are out, they still can't be themselves around everybody.
Also, when you considered the very homophobic tones of the black community, it makes things even worse for black gays considering that the black community is way worse on gays and lesbians than the white community.
So yeah, I do get being gay can seem just as hard for some. It's funny that your average black person does not even associate with white gay men that much, but that's the image we choose to associate with the gay community, instead of thinking about allllll of the many women and men who are black like us going through some terrible psychological conflicts. It's crazy that hate for white people who couldn't care less about you impedes some black peoples ability to allow equality in our own community. I also find it funny that many black people on here condemn the black church so much, but when it comes down to it, the only reason many black people have a problem with it is because of doctrine they've learned from the black church. Pick and choose ass nikkas.
