EA has been doing this type of stuff in FIFA and other sports games for years. People, lot of them children, buy "packs" that contain random players you can use in your squad in the most popular game modes. Even worse the players have contracts and fitness cards, consumables you need to use on the players to be able to keep playing with them.

I'm as excited as y'all are to hope for a possibility of no loot boxes in future games...

BUT...

I'm small understanding that this probably means we should expect the era of the $100 physical/$80 digital game.

I'm okay with that.

Are y'all?

How does taking away loot boxes make games $100? :dwillhuh:No one will buy them. Micro transactions aren't something out of financial necessity for game development either.

When I go to the cinema with my girl to watch a film for 2 hours in IMAX it costs me the price of most games when you add in parking food etc.

Game prices should of been that for a minute

Conventional DLCs/Expansions, Microtransactions where you know & get what you pay for, reducing huge marketing costs (for AAA), bypass brick & mortar stores and go fully digital to increase take of sales revenue are some avenues that haven't been remotely exercised by the publishers.

Failing that raising prices too. I don't think loot crates are an issue, they can be done right (Overwatch/Paladins) , EA unashamedly OD'd on it against the biggest franchise in the world and it's biting them in the ass

Tf you even talking bout breh? Of course you're paying that much. You're using a facility with expensive projection technology, surround sound and services that cater to your experience. What kinda comparison is that?

:what:

If games started costing $100 standard than it will be a third of the cost of the console which is absurd. No one will buy the games, period. That's the reason why micro-transactions work so well because it doesn't seem like much of an investment spending a few dollars here and there.

If loot boxes weren't hard RNG tied into actual content and progression, then there is no problem.

There's ways to include microtransactions without assfukking the consumer as well as retaining that sustained profit line.

I don't think people need to jump to "game prices will skyrocket" at all.

Bullshyt... Games USED to be $100 for just creation in cartridges alone... back in the day CD creation made them infinitely cheaper. don't let these companies lie to YOU... $60 PER GAME is more than enough for them to live off of. if the game definitely sucks then it's not even worth that. Can you imagine buying a $80 game now with no DLC and the game is broken or it outright sucks??? Remember Rage??? :heh: lootboxes have gone too far. these devs don't even focus on making the game anymore, they are greedy constantly sucking everything out of your pockets when you've already paid for it.

Back in the day there wasn't even lootboxes like that in games.... :scust:

60 per game is actually not enough for triple AAA production titles nowadays unless it sells really well, which lets be honest only a 8 or so a year do.

That’s why you see developers trying to constantly turn anything that catches on into a franchise.

Loot boxes, season passes and dlc are all free money towards a game development and growth as a franchise/IP

Well if the game doesnt suck it will sell well... :manny: if your a big game studio and pull out all the stops to make a triple A game. if it sucks it wont sell. but you can't be putting out games with a higher price tag and expect people to just outright buy it. :heh: Lootboxes should be done away with DLC is fine and all but damn man. I'd be pissed if I'm spending all this money and the game sucks. :scust: these companies are lying to you.

For ea and other big studios
Many of the smaller studios live or die by every game they release
