Not just that, potentially the best defensive player in the NBA and he's giving you 16-8-8 on 55% shooting.

I mean, prime Jason Kidd was a horribly inefficient and low-volume scorer and yet he was an MVP candidate because of his defense and passing. No one calls Ben Simmons an MVP candidate, so I don't see how it's overrating him to say that he's a solid all-star who is going to lock up your best player, rebound well, make elite passes, and give you an efficient 15-16 points.

Maybe he could jack up an extra 15 shots a game and only make 5 of them, then he'd be posting Westbrook-level numbers PLUS the elite defense....would that make him more worthy of respect?

Yes. In inexcusable for him to be that bad at shooting playing in the backcourt

yea I know the game has changed but until he wins playing like that it’s hard to say his style of play is producing. He is too big to be a liability on offense like that.

It's hilarious how folks think this logic makes sense.

Pop is hardly going to come out and say Simmons is trash, or that he's overrated because he can't shoot. People who're still involved in the game, either playing or coaching (particularly the latter) are a fraternity and they won't openly discredit a player. It's a bad look if a coach comes out and shyts on an opposition player for the sake of.

But you can wager your bottom dollar that the first thing on the Spurs scouting report when they play Philly is to force Ben to shoot.
