Yikes. And the new Cali mansion tax makes this an even worse deal for him. 5.5% sales tax on top of the other fees involved in Cali real estate. This is a bad move and seems desperate. Sure keeping a house you can't afford isn't smart but there has to be a better option. I'd rather pour more money into the house in hopes of raising the asking price than sell for 12mil unless I absolutely had to financially.

Yeah and given he bought it during record low interest rates in 2021, that makes his willingness to sell at that steep of a loss more surprising.
