I guess I don't get the difference between reaction videos and us reacting on the
Coli. We here music then react.

he is talking less about nikkas on forums and more about nikkas online making public demonstrative efforts to critique something in a negative way.
lets keep it relative to this forum tho...
say you don't like the new Drake album
there's a difference between you posting your opinion on the album in a thread somebody else created about the Drake album
VS
you creating the thread and already having a negative opinion about the Drake album -as opposed to being like "what yall think about this Drake album?" and then sharing your opinion that you don't like it.

seriously tho look at all the reaction videos that are out there - nikkas be trying to clown but really i see hints of bitterness/envy.
why aren't there more positive reaction videos to stuff?
cuz negative always gets more immediate reaction.

a long time ago when Snoop first came out this preacher had this anti-snoop campaign and made a video of a bulldozer running over a bunch of Snoops albums in the street.
When Snoop was questioned about it he said "they had to buy those CD's to smash them so I'm getting paid anyways"

you have to care to hate
be wary of the artists turned critic
fish can't advise birds how to fly better

The difference is you not enjoying it, and therefore not playing it
VS
You not enjoying it and making a reaction video to it and listing the reasons why you don't like it, the irony is now you're playing it

Freedom of speech is all good but WHY make a reaction video to something you don't like?
Are you trying to help people not spend their money there and instead buy "this other" album?
Is your opinion so worthy that people need to hear your validation before listening?

I don't mean YOU personally but you get what I mean
That's how it's always worked though even pre-Internet.

If you lurked hip hop forums back in the 90's and early 2000's, everyone was a critic then too. The difference is simply that the Internet is bigger than ever before now which means that cynical critics now have more visibility for their critiques than they did back then.

But the Internet is so vast that you still can avoid those types of critics with ease. I stopped watching Joe Budden when he dropped Rory and Mal. As a result, I'm pretty much never exposed to Joe's content at all and even my algorithms don't direct me to him.

There's always going to be cynical critics over music, TV/movies, video games, sports, etc. simply because cynicism sells and draws people in more.

But there's still plenty of positive reviewers or super professional reviewers. It's just that people don't find them entertaining enough so they ignore them and focus on the cynics and haters instead. That's how it usually goes.

Ironically, the majority of music reviews online about Drake's album were mild af.

Joe's review was mild and had more praises than criticism. Fantano gave him a strong 5 which is actually good since his grading system is very strict. DEHH gave it a mixed review as well.

Now, that I think about it, I can barely think of a music or hip hop based channel that outright called the album trash. Most of them just said it was mid or even said that it was his best effort since Views.

Are ya'll actually following true music review channels or just conflating hate comments from random Twitter/IG accounts with them? I'd like to know which specific music review channel outright hated on Drake's album cause the majority of reviews I've seen for it rated it higher than I did ironically.

He could've articulated a bit better but I kinda see what he's saying. Reminded me of this Charlie Clips skit from back in the day

(one minute mark, time stamped)

"Even if Un Kasa wins the next 6 rounds , bc of this 1 round...its debatable "

:laff: :laff: thats what I used to do for JC and Eazy before the Surf & Geechi battles :mjcry:

People take the “media” of social media seriously.

Everyone thinks their personal opinion matters. So it’s not necessarily reviewing something they don’t like, it’s reviewing whatever is trendy and making sure people know what THEIR opinion is (good or bad) on whatever is popular at the moment :francis:

Once again I'm talking about the difference between
I dont like this
VS
I dont like this and here are the reasons why
VS
I dont like this and here are the reasons why and lets play the album song by song and break them down

the internet has evolved for sure and higher production value has become easier to attain and promote but to paraphrase you....
"people dont find positive reviewers or super professional reviewers entertaining enough so they ignore them and focus on the cynics and haters instead..."
thats exactly the problem tho, way 2 much emphasis on reaction and clicks rather than substance and thought -
until perception becomes reality.
As if the entertainment value validates the critique, you can paint a turd gold but even though its nicer to look at - its still sh1t.

I only picked Drake cuz he is one of the most polarizing rappers out today.
The way people love/hate him and the reasons why are all over the place.
and it was only theoretical - i don't follow any review/critic personalities so I have no idea what the general consensus is

This is where I get a bit confused.

Doesn't playing the album actually show that they've listened to it all the way through to base their opinions?

I guess I need to know what specific type of channels you're speaking on for context because listening to albums before criticizing it actually sounds better than what @SirBiatch (aka TochiRTA) used to do where he would just ramble on about an artist or album on his channel without breaking anything down and use outright false or exaggerated narratives just to seem like some hip hop head. :mjlol:

Cynical or positive, I enjoy people who can actually break down the songs or show signs that they actually listened to the project.

Na
Most of the ppl giving true criticism in articles are all white ppl

Most big Black hip hop media is mostly concerned with gargling nuts, aka Elliot Wilson or don't care about the music like the breakfast club

The Black ppl that do critique aren't that big like Dejuan from LA

So I don't have an issue with fans critiquing

Void needs to be filled

My brother in Christ...that's kinda the topic though.

I feel like people who think that every other critic was wilding on Drake hasn't actually watched actual music reviews on his latest album and are just going off of Drake's narrative pushed on IG.

I watched some reviews as I do for many albums. And I'm telling you that most of the reviews were mild af and ranked the album higher than I would've. DEHH's criticism was mild. Joe Budden praised it more than he criticized it. Needledrop gave it a strong 5 which isn't bad at all. The Collegian called it average. FD Signifier claimed it was better than he expected it to be.

Drake really brainwashed people into thinking that every critic was hating on it and grabbing pitchforks(no pun intended) when that actually wasn't the case at all. Hell, CLB and Scorpion got way more hate than this album now that I think about it. Drake just spazzed out over a cherrypicked video of Budden's review and played the victim.
