Besides 9/11, what's a major historical event you lived through that you’ll never forget where you were when it happened?

Beginning of the Iraq War. I remember the Night NBC news had Tom Brokaw reporting and they started showing explosions over Baghdad. Bush came on TV basically saying shyt had started. My family was heavily involved in the protest leading up to the war. I was young but they took me and it was definitely a pivotal experience in my life. We were watching TV as they were showing the bombs drop and I remember my Dad saying we just started some shyt that will impact us for decades. Looking at veteran suicide rates and homelessness, broken families, trillion+ dollars spent, etc.. he was both wrong and right :francis:

2020 was the demo version of what “The end of the world” would look like.

But MJ dying and almost took the internet with him was crazy.

Summer of 2020 was America's collision course that done wrecked everyone perception of what a society was. Bad enough that COVID was killing over 2 thousand people per day, but the George Floyd protests just took it over the top. Between that, people traveling to ATL, Houston, Miami and partying non stop, and unemployment/ PPP loans having people living like (temporary) kings, 2020 ripped any prior year of the 21st century to shreds.

I was at the Hawks/Knicks game right before they postponed the season

I remember where I was when Kobe died and Obama got elected and when Hillary lost because we were at a watch party and old white women were crying like a mf when she lost

Every major storm that came thru Louisiana. Also When the BLM protests kicked off. It was black vs white for real for real big. Also every protest against cops killing black folks the past 10 years

Being in East Africa during the Rwanda Genocide. Told this story several times. Lake Victoria was choke full of dead Bloated bodies floating on the surface getting devoured by crocks and fish.

We used to get the best Tilapia from that lake. I didn't eat fish again until 2000. They showed everything on the news. Nothing was left to imagination back then. No sheets on the bodies nothing.

Challenger mission was highly publicized because of the school teacher going to space, the first ever civilian I believe.

Classrooms across the country watched that shuttle blow up live. We had a substitute teacher that day, she had to follow the lesson plan.

I was maybe 4. It was wild seeing how many older kids and even teachers were crying.
