Because they were a collective and spent their prime making solo albums.

funny, because bone thugs didn't start making solos until after their prime, yet wu fans always want to compare solos.

and again, solos don't count for group rankings. how come none of the other groups that banged out solo classics in their prime, don't get the distinction of having their solo albums count towards group standings? only wutang fans can move goal posts?

So do you feel that the writers through the early to mid 90s weren't knowledgeable of the music? That they were suburban or not black and thus their opinions were irrelevant?
Of the first wave of fives through Aquemini - do you disagree with any of them? I feel that their was some regional bias, sometimes they just blew it (Smif N Wesson and Doggystyle), and they were to hesitant to give fives post 1991. But, I can see how that would be the best way to go about things, I can sympathize with how difficult it must be to have a record for a few weeks, have no idea what sort of impact it will have, and have to make the call about whether its a timeless classic or just a fantastic record. I think they should have only considered albums for five mic status after they had been out for at least a year, In other words, five mic ratings should only have been retroactive.

Also - can you give examples of albums that people relied on the rating from the source only to be disappointed?

im not saying their opinions were irrelevant but they simply didn't carry any real weight. come on man. you know the drill.

aquemini getting 5 mics basically sums it up.

and theres a couple albums that I disagree with from the early days, but I was just a pup back then so it aint my place to throw my weight around on those.

rza advanced sampling to such a level dude left it behind for wuforever. it was no longer a challenege to make those beats. he was WELL AHEAD of everyone in hip hop sides dre in his lil run. premo wasnt even premo yet when rza stopped making sample beats

and the point of me even saying that was rza has moved onto bigger and better things no matter how flabby mn sick hes been for 10 years... so wheres u-neek?

the bottom line is that I caught you slippin. you acting like rza walked away on top, when in reality, he fell off nearly 15 years before he walked away and was making struggle-music for nearly 10 years. you acting like he was barry sanders when he stepped off, when in reality he was Ladainian Tomlinson on the jets.

premo wasn't premo yet when rza stopped making sample beats? come on dog. youre one of the better posters on this site but you mustve had a horrible day yesterday.

and what does dj u-neek have to do with anything?

Is there another group like Wu? That had 9 members, made one group album (that was the first introduction to the group) and then spent 3 years making solo albums? Solo albums all helmed by the same producer?
I can't think of another "group" that fits all the criteria. Since it is a unique situation - we have to treat it differently. But if I'm slacking and there are a bunch of other legendary 9 member groups then let me know.

I like Liquid Swords but I don't think its as good as Tical start to finish. Same with Supreme.

I said it is the second best solo, the first of course being OB4CL.
I can't even hate on that. Only certain people will fukk with Tical like that. I'm one of them. It's a really dark album and you can tell the dust influenced both Meth and RZA while recording. I love it though.

i didn't start reading the Source until 96. First issue I had was the one with Cube and the "W" chain on the cover. I think it was the issue where they gave Nas and Jay 4 mics. I've seen reviews online from issues older than that and I never got the sense that the writers were cultural interlopers who were faking the funk. Always seemed to me that they were on top of their shyt. I think most hip-hop fans (and artists) recognized the weight the magazine held. Of course, they made mistakes, but crowing classics ain't easy work.
I would be interested to hear about ratings that had people you knew upset when they got hte album home though. If you remember.

Yea there is references to it on just about every song. I just get this vibe they got a sherm binge, recorded in a basement on some grimey gear, and put out a perfectly cohesive album.

if you know about him, you know after wu forever, shyt already fell apart n he stopped caring. he rebuilt his career off scores. what im sayin is not that far fetched. and yea, i never puit premo equal wit rza during rzas prime. premo hit hardest when moment of rtruth came out imo. and were discussing popularity of bone thugs and wu right? rza on top still can do wghatever he wants and u neek is...history

thanks for the props dough

so he stopped caring but lingered around doing struggle music for a decade?:comeon:

rza is still on top of what?:laff:

premo's prime is long before "moment of truth".

again, why do you keep bringing up u-neek?
