Besides C.R.E.A.M, what other megahits did Wu Tang Clan have as a group?

They are NOT more popular. That's one of the most unilaterally false statements made in this thread. They SOLD more records. BIG difference. Wu easily have as much, or more fans worldwide than Bone. Sold out arenas, tattoos branded on faces, this generation of fans and artists acknowledgement of their greatness leads me to KNOW so. Bone sold more simply because they make more commercially appealing music. That's it. Bone being more popular is a myth that these jealous Bone stans will wanna Barry Sanders run with in here. Stop it, breh.

I told yall on page 1 this fakkit created this thread in an attempt to goad y'all into a thread about Bone Thugs sales. And to his credit...it worked. Dudes fell for his trolling.

Bone Thug stans intrigue me. They have some sort of inferiority complex that very few other rapper stans display. This cac, and most of the other Bone stans on the Coli, are jealous of Wu's Godlike status in hip hop. It doesn't matter if Bone sold 10x more records than Wu. That doesn't equate to them being better or having a greater legacy than the clan and it burns them. It fukking kills them. These nikkas wish their harmonizing heroes were held in such regal regards as the Clan. Ya'll dudes need to accept it and move on. Bone created some damn good music throughout their career. But they just aren't the Clan.

Because "megahits" are for pop musicians. Wu Tang was always an albums group. Furthermore, besides obvious pop-crossovers like MC Hammer, rappers didn't start having regular "megahits" until the end of the 90s, when rap finally became accepted completely as having top-10 pop potential.

So are you saying "Crossroads" solidified Bone as "pop musicians'? Did "express yourself' solidify NWA as pop musicians? What about all the megahits that Run DMC had in the '80s? Are they pop musicians?

I wouldn't say that some of the tracks mentioned are just NY hits because living in the DC area, those tracks got spins on radio here too. Like I said, shimmy shimmy ya and Ice cream were big during that 95 summer and I know that cause radio played them. Hell, The Riddler got radio spins down here during that time span. I know a lot of dudes like to act like Wu didn't have reach and yeah, maybe they didn't get play in your parts of the country but lets not act like they don't have a legacy because they didn't get play on your radio stations. For them to sell the amount of records they sold, do shows overseas and have a massive hype train for Wu-Tang Forever, they had to have reach. Like someone said, video airplay was a big deal during that time and they got plenty of that

Dude...

"Shimmy Shimmy Ya" is a song by "Ol' Dirty b*stard", not "Wu-Tang Clan".
"Ice Cream" is a song by "Raekwon", not "Wu-Tang Clan".
"The Riddler" is a song by "Method Man", not "Wu-Tang Clan".

And, just because a song gets spins doesn't mean it is automatically a "hit".

Still, these facts do not diminish the legacy of the Wu-Tang Clan.

Shimmy Shimmy Ya was produced by RZA
Ice Cream featured Method Man and Cap and was produced by RZA
The Riddler was prodcued by RZA

These are Wu Tang Songs brah. They were truly a collective even on their solo projects. So to the point of the thread, no Wu doesn't have "Mega Hits" but they have "Hip Hop Hits". "Hip Hop Hits" are not determined by the charts but by the streets. Example, "Who Shot Ya" is a Hip Hop Hit.

Bone and Wu both dropped Solo double albums in 97 and sold the same thing. The Difference was Bone had hit singles and was coming off "Crossroads" yet Wu still matched them in popularity and sales.

:comeon:

so we gonna sit here and act like wutang wasn't getting a whole lot more promotion & exposure in '97?

cut it out.

you mean he created this thread, the same way you created that "wutang is the goat group" thread in response to a 'bone vs wutang' thread?

and its all good, because bone vs wutang is one of the greatest debates in rap history. but keep it real dog.

and im pretty sure that the threadstarter isn't saying that bone is better because they were bigger. its probably in response to how you wutang heads act as if wutang was bigger and as if bone was some chitlin circuit group.

I'll concede that Bone as a whole, not including solo albums, is the more popular group, but this is hip hop right? When did dudes start equating popularity with better? If you feel Bone is a better group, cool, but bringing in their popularity as a debate point is moot to me. Hammer sold more records than A LOT of dudes of that era and even in this era, but is anyone going to say Hammer is better than some of the guys who have sold less records? Not at all. Not saying Bone should be compared to Hammer or Nelly or those type of cats, but let's not act like popularity is a true sign of greatness.

see the last statement in my response to @Billy Ocean.

I understand that these aren't "Wu" songs but they carry the Wu brand and the Wu stamp, which only enhance the Wu legacy. I would argue that since they were the first group, at least to my knowledge, to branch out as a group and create successful solo careers for a good number of guys in the group, each on different record labels and corner the market in a very specific way, gives them an either greater legacy.

I would say that those songs are hits because in my area, they were on the radio heavily, not just during a mix show or late night hip hop. Does that mean they were billboard hits? No, but a lot of "hit" songs aren't billboard hits like someone said earlier.

1st Bad Boy ran 97. 2nd Bone had two hit songs with "Look into my Eyes and If I could Teach the World" yet their album sold the same as Wu Tang who didn't have a single Pop hit on the album. Bone was coming off "E.1999 and Crossroads" yet they sold the same records as Wu in 97.

You can't act like Bone is a chitlin circuit group. They were huge. I feel like Wu is the better group and has a bigger legacy and impact but that doesn't mean Bone is chopped liver

youre doing that bullchit machine-posting again.

so you basically ignored what I just said and repeated your previous post.

yea, but that's how a lot of these wu-heads be acting on here. which is crazy, because bone was more popular.

No, it's not. Stop with the comedy routine. Nobody outside of the Coli believes that Bone Thugs had a greater legacy or standing in hip hop than Wu. At least not any objective, sane hip hop fan. Cut the bullshyt :heh:

...but they are not songs by "Wu-Tang Clan".
If you have a copy of those singles, the artist on those is not "Wu-Tang Clan".
If you look at the charts and those songs are on them, the artis listed is not "Wu-Tang Clan".

That is the point of this thread.

"Wu-Tang Clan" does have "mega hits" UNDER THEIR GROUP NAME, though.
What you're talkin' about with "Hip Hop Hits" is irrelevant on this topic.

So are you saying "Crossroads" solidified Bone as "pop musicians'? Did "express yourself' solidify NWA as pop musicians? What about all the megahits that Run DMC had in the '80s? Are they pop musicians?

Run DMC are obviously pop musicians. They were one of the first groups to cross over into pop. That aside, if you look at their discog, they only have 1 more top-10 song than Wu does. and that's because it was the Aerosmith collab. NWA also only has 1 more top-10 song than Wu. So talking about "all the megahits" as if they had tons of megahits and Wu is in a completely different category from them is reaching hard.

As for Bone, they had several more hits than Wu in the US, and less outside it, but regardless, they are a singles group at the end of the day. Their albums sold on the strength of their singles. That's not true for Wu, who, like I said, are an albums group, whether group or solo. Their albums went platinum even without top-10 singles.
