In a thread about hip hop in 2003, KRS-One has somehow dominated discussion.

He's the real MVP

Drizzy has been robbed at least twice now :lolbron:

I voted for him in 2011, and it shoulda been his for the taking. He honestly shoulda had 2013 too over Push a (5 am in Tornto, everybody and they mama remixed Pound Cake, etc) and once again he had a case for 2009 tho honestly that shoulda went to Ross :mjpls:
Drake got robbed three times IMO, he should have at the very least won '11 and '13.
TBA was better than GRODT.
Was it really? :mjpls:
Well firstly it tells me you're liar because that hasn't been the case. Secondly the fact that some of my choices had to be added tells me that it's a genuine vote and I'm not a sheep picking people because the majority did, and also that that I have a broader taste and deeper knowledge of Hip Hop than some here, of course there are some very knowledgeable people here too, not talking about them, but it's also true there are some with a very limited and restricted knowledge that aren't really qualified because they haven't even heard enough Hip Hop albums that year broadly to judge. I don't see why you're so invested over this internet poll lol, like why don't you just pick who think instead of getting emotional over somebody else's choice? Odd. I'm just making my votes and and thinking what good releases there were then going about my business, I don't agree with many of your votes either but it's YOUR vote so entitled to vote who you want, so am I and will continue to do so.
It's not about being a sheep it's about being objective. KRS was your personal favorite but any reasonable criteria of what constitutes an MVP in hip hop would disqualify him. KRS was a non-factor in 2003 and has been for a very long time.

I'm not a huge 50 fan, GRODT probably isn't in my top 5 albums I listen to most from '03 but its undeniable it was his year.
:francis:
Raekwon made an impact in 2009 though.
No...he didn't :francis:

68,000 first week copies in 2009 was considered a flop. Album came and went too didn't influence anyone or change anything in hip hop.

If dudes came out rapping geography bars I would agree with you. :pachaha:
I would be more pissed off at Eminen not getting a year than Kendrick winning.

U brought up albums sales to section.80 but Eminem outsold Nas by like 10 million records:francis:.
I didn't vote for Nas in '02. I actually voted for Cam, even though Lost Tapes was my favorite 2002 album. If you or anyone voted for Eminem I wouldn't argue or say a thing he had skills, impact/influence, MVP appeal.

I personally don't fukk with Eminem's music never did (outside of Infinite, and select songs) and we all know Eminem while skilled benefited hugely from being the white boy who made rap mainstream in white America and he has a legion of stans that care or know very little about hip hop.

As for Kendrick he just wasn't that nikka in '11, he was not the MVP of 2011 he was just starting out no way it's not a difficult concept to grasp. I brought up sales because Kendrick sold 5,000 copies off a digital release A LOT of people the vast majority of the hip hop community had never heard or knew who Kendrick Lamar was. Illmatic didn't sell a ton of records but it had major impact on the culture, S80 was dope but it didn't have that impact. Nas was a major player in '02 he had hits, Platinum album, two critically acclaimed albums in one year, beefs, he was a major force in the culture. I first heard of Kendrick in '09 off a Empire State of Mind cover he did I happened to be up on him, I put nikkas on to S80 when GKMC came out. Most of S80's sales (it's now up over 100,000 sold) came after GKMC. A lot of people's first time seeing or hearing K-Dot was on the XXL in '11 and his feature on Take Care. Some heard the name, never heard the voice. Real talk.

I voted for Kendrick in 2012, 2015 to me should have been shared with Drake and Future but I'm not mad at Kendrick winning 2015. 2011 though? Hell no.

I got Jay Z on this one. He came back strong from a slump. He had throwaways that were dope that year. For example, "La La La La" was album worthy, but it ended up on the Bad Boys II soundtrack. He had some dope verses on "Crazy In Love" and Pharrell's "Frontin". I think the S. Carter Collection mixtape dropped that year too. Then of course, there's The Black Album.
