By your dumbass criterias Vanilla Ice must be MVP for 1990 and Macklemore must be MVP for 2012

Fukking morons, what does it matter which impact it had and how much it sold? I'd rather listen to a Gibbs or Z-Ro album today instead of a Drake megaseller, fukk the noise

Well my personal criteria is a mix between impact, album quality, and rapping skills so I'm not voting strictly based on impact:yeshrug:

as @BmoreGorilla said, there has to be a balance of factors to a certain extent.

Voting KRS in 2003 or Rino in any year is ludicrous.

Voting Raekwon in 2009 is kinda hipster but justified as well because at least it had some impact and more importantly the album is universally recognised as probably top 3 of the year. It sold relatively well. So Raekwon is in the running.

What did KRS do in 2003?

Now on the other side of the scale. Vanilla Ice or MC Hammer sold crazy but the content was weak to the extent that on a hip-hop forum you can't really vote these people either...but I'ma be honest they probably have a better case than a KRS in 03 type thing.

You find the balance between quality and the other factors and you have an ideal MVP for any given year.

That's why MVP (Vanilla Ice in 90) and best rapper (Jay in 96) are TOTALLY DIFFERENT CRITERIAS and shouldn't be mixed

Fukk MC Hammer and Macklemore, I vote for the hottest spitter

No ones forcing you to come in the thread and vote. If you don't like the criteria or premise than keep it moving or start your own series.

yeah but Jay in 1996 is more legitimate than Ras Kass, who you could argue was the best spitter that year on pure lyricism (not that Ras is a bad pick by any means)

I've mentioned before MVP is a 'fun' term to equate to sports, I do care more about people voting who they think is best, but people have decided to interpret best as bringing more than just spitting/album quality to the table, which is more than reasonable

But you're the 1 doing most of the complaining about other people's votes lol. So why don't you apply that to yourself?....

Dude who started it titled it best rapper and said MVP was just a fun term. Therefore if you getting emotional over other people's choices should take your own advice.

Fuk u ranting about

No one is saying that should be the only consideration but we talkin MVP

So just as how in sports MVP isnt just a matter of leading scorer or highest fg percentage etc but rather a holistic contextual analysis, thats how you have to treat this too
