woooooow, I had to let that marinate for a second. Ima fall back now that I really let that set in.
I'd say probably 360 to ps3 since the problems lingered far into the generation. But I think the challenges are very similar. Everybody talks about the cell being the big differentiator, but it was really the memory structure. What fit nicely inside the 360 memory did not fit into the ps3 memory. The same thing is happening this gen but it's vise versa.
In order to get optimal performance out of the X1 memory, mainly the esram things have to be cut up in smaller chunks and different effects have to be split between the two pools of ram. Ps4 is a lot more straightforward and similar to PC. At the beginning of a generation devs are basically working in the dark. So they estimate a reasonable performance goal and they built the games/engines around common PC architecture. The PS4 is doing better with this first batch of games simply because it is much closer to a PC.
Now I'm not saying we will ever get full parity, the ps4 is a faster machine for graphics output. And even if it wasn't there are plenty of other things that can effect development or performance of a game. But the performance gap we are seeing currently can not be fully attributed to the difference in power. It's much more complicated and as devs get more time with the hardware the gap will close.

The most compelling and anticipated next gen games are always online, devs getting used game money would have been good for the industry, and switching games without discs would have been good for my laziness.

Because they weren't. That's like me saying X1 is stronger than PS4 cause Ryse looks better than ps4 exclusives. It's a false equivelance and an invalid comparison. But once again your aren't concerned with the truth. Only stan facts
