From Long Island, New York you got The Master, The God MC, R.A.K.I.M.

From Queens, New York we got Gods Son, Nas Escobar, Nasty Nas

Very similar in style, seeing how Rakim influenced Nas, both have that one album that is a undiputable classic.

Both have birthed generations of rappers, both have an extensive body of work, both been in the rap game for decades.

My mind explodes trying to even choose.

You guys know more about Hip-Hop so lets hear you tell it.

Nas is an updated Rakim....so...

I wouldn't say updated, cause you can't update from Rakim. He is easily at the top of the pyramid.

I find it hard to chose, I think Rakim wins with the rhymes but Nas flow is slightly better. Nas also has had more success in the mainstream if that matters.

Nas easily. From a technical standpoint, Rakim raised the bar for emcees. But the thing is he was mostly rapping about rapping. Nas raps about life.

Had to double post.

They both rap about rapping but listen to Remember That and tell me Rakim doesn't take you back to his hood and those old school concerts and cyphers.

Or The Mystery and listen to how he tells that story.

rakim and nas are nothing alike at all. even when nas was rapping about rapping it was more like a young tragedy than a rakim. their rhyme patterns are way differen't. their flows are way different. their content is way different. 2 completely different rappers who some how came to be compared.

I'm comparing them because they are some of the greatest lyricist hip hop has to offer and just got tired of seeing Drake and Rhianna threads and wanted to talk about hip hop on a hip hop forum for a minute.

You're posting songs from years after Nas came out. Nas never really rapped about rapping. illmatic was about the hood and he started getting conceptual with It Was Written.

This is a hard one... I feel that from a technical standpoint, Rakim is a better MC. He started doing something, that was revolutionary at that time.
Suddenly every other spitter sounded bland in comparison.

But.
No one's perfect, there were aspects where he was clearly
lacking.
And this is where Nas came into the picture, he took Rakim's style, added his own elements, and made it into something unique. Wouldn't say better, but ... I feel he is a more "complete" MC.

He has a point though. You said their similar though when they really aren't. Like dude said, Nas is more like Tragedy, or his peer AZ.

rakim technically is better and here is why the inner top and end patterns
and the multis and has far better wordplay and metaphors. nas just has better punclines.
