Curry is only efficient when his shot is on. He doesn't know how to manufacture points. Iverson was able to score regardless. And he wasn't just a volume shooter. He average more than 10 free throws a game multiple season and played a lot of minutes (led the league multiple times). So Iverson was more efficient because he was able to manufacture points while Curry mainly relies on his jump shot.
Where are you getting this from? Only 20% of his 2-point attempts were assisted last year and only 45% of his threes were spot-up or assisted shots. Taking more shots regardless of quality doesn't make him better.
Iverson's MVP year ('01):
37% of 2-point FGs were assisted
78% of 3-point FGs were assisted
Both higher than Curry's which means
more of his shots were assisted by teammates. Who's really better at manufacturing points?
Also for the record, Steph Curry has a lower percentage of shots assisted for his entire career vs. Iverson's career. Curry is predominantly a jump-shooter but it doesn't make sense to call him worse/more inefficient than AI because of that. Curry can rely on a jump shot because he is so damn efficient. I still don't know why that's hard to get.
Implying that Iverson was more efficient because he played more minutes is contradictory. He needed
more minutes to average
more points on
lesser efficiency? Also I agree that Iverson could generate points well to a degree because part of his offense was drawing contact and getting to the line, but it doesn't excuse him shooting under 40% from everywhere on the court (excluding attempts from 0-3 feet) his whole career. Not even the amount of free throws he took boosted his TS% which is a measure of FG%, 3PT% and FT% all put into one percentage. Free throws generally boost a player's TS% (ex: Harden is a slightly above average shooter but his TS% is abnormal because of his free throw attempts/makes). AI's is poor in relation to his volume as his 51.8% career TS% is an average mark. If anything AI relied on getting to the line to average as many points as he did and things like PER reflect that.
Allen Iverson
Like I said in my previous post, AI's game was not naturally conducive to efficiency. That puts him at a big disadvantage vs. Curry in this comparison.
