To be honest, a lot of people seemed to start hopping on this wave (I really don't like referring to it as such) after the Trayvon verdict. I'm still trying to figure out how people say they only became "woke" from 2012-present. I mean anybody who has been Black their whole life knew or at least had an idea of just how deeply rooted racism was in this country. Black people were getting gunned down by the police before 2012. We were facing discrimination, prejudice, and all kinds of mistreatment and injustice prior to 2012 and you didn't have to open a history book or talk to someone older to know it. It wasn't something that was hidden.

To be fair, Beyonce's last album was supported by gimmick marketing (i.e. surprise release).
Listen, Beyonce is a super nova of an artist but the numbers surprisingly don't back shyt up. Her album sales and billboard performance isn't that great.
Yeah, you could say it was a gimmick, but one that could've been a massive backfire.
A lot of artists' numbers don't back their star power. I mean, there's Rihanna, Katy Perry, Lady Gaga, Nicki Minaj, and the list goes on.

Beyonce outsold 20/20 Experience, PRISM, Blurred Lines, Heroine, and Bangerz. Looking up the information, outside of Adele and Taylor Swift, One Direction is the only other act that has sold more.
