Nothing grimy about it, the producer created the actual product, it's his and he can do as he pleases, his mistake was doing any work when he was told the album was in concept status and there was no budget.

Well, if you really wanna go there, biggie could‘ve technically had sued him

How, Copyright law doesn’t protect concepts, themes, or general ideas — only the tangible execution. the track’s composition and production belong to the producer unless there was a legal signed binding agreement saying otherwise.

Hearing this story makes what LL did to Shades for the Bernard Wright sample "who do you love" make more sense

The Characters the characters made that beat and LL heard it in the studio.
He liked it, he got Def Jam to tie up litigation with Wright to delay the release.
He then got trackmasters to do their own damn version of the sample and ended up releasing both songs the same day and killing Shade's momentum.

people sue artists , individuals, or companies in the music or just even in general entertainment field every day
and a good portion of those people suing usually get paid off

sued him because he made a sample suggestion and a record he didn't own? im not sure about that.

:francis: calling that exchange a suggestion is a bit disingenuous …

I mean Rashad story clearly states that him and big had a conversation about him doing a track for his double album and biggie telling him he had the concept already and wanted him to samples these 2 specific songs

Okay. He told him the sample. Then homie did the work and he wasn’t ready to pay for it. Intended on selling it to him but at the end of the day, someone needs to pay for the work. LL wasn’t playing around.

Big shoulda cashed him out. F all that “wait” sht. Cut the check.

You're way too nice, please!
Where that coke payment at?
fukk where it might be "

"Like Bob Barker, if the price is right
Lay your ass down sell the track for spite
Anybody, aight?"

Puff probably had 5-10 grand in his pocket that he could’ve gave dude as a deposit. Hell, Big was probably walking around with that on him everyday at that point. I understand dude needing money now.

But I know that had to destroy Big on the inside, being that those were his ideas. Could he have gotten a production credit on that?

did you even listen to the interview?
dude clearly said Puff told him upfront that big second album didn’t have a budget as yet … so as I already said, he shouldn’t have done the track until he got the OK

he even said himself that he understood why biggie was so upset with him & understood why big wasn’t gonna fukk with him anymore
So I just don’t get posters on here blaming biggie or puff instead of Rashad Smith
