I see no issue. The saying goes, "Never follow in the footsteps of a legend". If you take away the scandal, Joe Pa BUILT Penn State. It was a no win situation for Bill because alot of Joe Pa's friends are still there, and would want him to be like Joe Pa minus the child molestation. :manny:

Not only that...why not strike when your stock is at the highest?

to add to that, he's walking into a situation where he could realistically make the playoffs next year, he hss the FIRST pick in the draft, and in a division in the AFC South which is the definition of :flabbynsick:

if you a college coach making a jump ymto the league, always go to a weak division where you can succeed immediately word to Harbaugh, Carroll and now O'Brien

Going from coaching Penn State to coaching the Texans is a come up now.:patrice:

Dude musta been on that struggle at Penn State :comeon:
Read th Happy Valley article on how at odds he was with the donors and fans who still supported Paterno. You'll see why he left and why anyone who isn't a PSU guy is craz to take it

His stock is premium high no doubt. Plus he has that that Head Coachness about him in the NFL, the kind who loves to bytch at the refs.

cuz its bullshyt, 2 wrongs dont make a right

not sure why PSU even re-negiotiated his buyout, should have left it at 20M and let the Texans pay the bill if they wanted him so bad

its life :manny: money and status talks.

coaching snobby college kids in a racist town <<<<<<<<< coaching a potential sb nfl team in one of the top 5 nfl largest markets with 0 state taxes.

the latter sounds like a win to me.

If you had a job at McDowell's only washing the lettuce, wouldn't you want to work your way up to the fries and the grill?

I'm all for people, coaches included getting better jobs. But don't preach family and bring you kids into the shytstorm and then bounce. He got kids to commit and or stay in the midst of all the sanctions and penalties the school has to deal with and just leaves them there to deal with it. If he didn't want to deal with it he should have never went to PSU.

Is it a logical move sure but a hoe azz, SNAKE IN THE GRASS move nonetheless

So because other coaches have done something similar makes it right? Plus O'brien knew what time it was before he got there. If he didn't want to deal with it he shouldn't have accepted it.

But he did deal with it. The issue was is that Penn State, is still Joe Paterno's Happy Valley. Alot of Alumni still have visions of Joe Pa on the sidelines, and cannot accept he is no longer coaching. It's like the shyt with Kentucky Basketball, they are never satisfied unless they win a Championship every year.

He knew that there would be no chance at playing any bowl games, or winning BIG Ten Championships. Kids had the chance to leave the program if they wanted to. If the Athletic Directory and the College Univ. Board at Penn State were heavily rumored to be at odd with Bill O' Brien's plan, then at what point does Bill have to deal with all of this?

The NFL is the pinnacle of football head coaching, not to mention that as a head coach with the NFL, he won't have to go on recruiting trails because he has a son that has a physical-neurological impairment. Spending time on the road, away from your family in the off-season is something Bill cannot do forever, because his own son cannot literally feed himself.
