Bill O'Brien to the Texans

In O'Brien's defense as a coach, he took Matt McGloin from a walk-on getting annihilated by every big opponent he played into an NFL starter who is actually holding his own. He's a QB genius in my book.

And his leadership got us through all the BS, and seems like everything you read from his players basically credit him for the whole thing, so that should probably not be questioned either.

But in terms of overall football coaching ability, especially in game play calling and decision making, I'm skeptical.

That's his most notable skill as a coach, it's how he got Christian Hackenberg to PSU, how he got that kid O'Connor to commit for next year, how he turned McGloin into an NFL start, what made him a hot name, and what got him a job as an NFL head coach with a pretty good franchise.....

So I would hope so.... for his sake and the Texans'.....

News flash - if you watched PSU before O'Brien, you'd see McGloin sucked infinitely worse. He went from walk-on throwing 5 picks in a bowl game against Florida to beating out Tyler Wilson and Terrelle Pryor. He might suck compared to other NFL starters, but he is pretty damn good compared to what he was just a few months before O'Brien got him. That's the point.

And funny you mention Flynn. The Raiders cut his ass because they were happy with McGloin being on the roster and didn't need that dude anymore.

Flynn was cut because of salary. McGloin did not beat out Pryor. Pryor got benched because the Raiders were losing. McGloin had one decent year, let's not get carried away. USC makes a bunch of QBs look legit while in college and they do nothing in the NFL. Making a great college QB and NFL QB are two different things. McGloin had a 56% completion percentage this year and had 8 TDs and 8 INTs. Let's not get carried away.
