I've always thought Simmons was interesting, but I came to respect him much more as a talent gatherer than for his own talent. His columns are okay, but I was never a huge fan. I enjoy his podcasts if he has the right guest. But, Grantland and 30-for-30 are the best things ESPN turned out in a long damn time. I read Grantland almost every day. That's one of my favorite sites on the entire net. And there were very few 30-for-30s that I didn't end up watching multiple times. So, I don't care that Simmons isn't going to be on television on ESPN or writing those long-winded email response columns for them anymore, but I do hope a big media conglomerate continues to let him put me on to new talent...and if it means I sometimes have to deal with his whiny voice and Boston homerism that's fine by me.
Pretty much

fixed. Obviously his talent is important and Floyd is clearly a troll and there's nothing wrong with that. His public persona is a carefully crafted and extremely lucrative business decision that allows him to draw incredible amounts of viewers for fights that most of the viewing public feels are "boring".

His public persona is him. He's a dikk. Most athletes are and at some point he gave up on trying to be PC or nice to folks who ain't nice to him. I don't believe for a second that he's different behind closed doors.

I guarantee you there's a god damn mutiny going on in the grantland offices. Jalen and Jacoby at the very least said they're out if Bill ever gets kicked to the curb. I imagine it's the same for most of the other staff.
Jalen is probably the only dude who can afford a mutiny. You act like these people aren't under contract

Start breaching contracts and then get another competing job while you're under contract with someone else

Find out what that ESPN money buys in lawyers while you have no income brehs

Man, that quote talking about Simmons wanting $6 million and ESPN doesn't want to give him that because of upcoming Skip Bayless and Colin Cowherd negotiations is just :snoop:

Those two clowns are easily replaceable. :camby:

SI says the contract expires in September so hopefully we'll get his podcasts til then

I'm pretty sure everything else at Grantland stays there and Bill keeps doing BS Report and Bill Don't Lie, just without Grantland/ESPN branding :manny: (if ESPN owns the names they'll obviously have different names)

so all we're losing is Bill with Jalen, Lowe, etc. on Grantland Basketball Hour but as long as Lowe appears on BS Report I'm not mad at all :manny: Bill and Jalen isn't a great combo anyway

Talent trumps everything. Broner is more of a heel than Mayweather and he barely registers with most people. Mayweather doesn't go out of his way to say fukked up stuff about people. He's confident. He bets on himself. He says what he believes. He's not a troll. He's a cat that got rich and shows it off. That's no different than any other rich cat.
You're wrong fam. I know what you saying. If he was shytty, he wouldn't be as rich either

But out of mayweathers own mouth... He said he wanted to act out but bob arum wouldn't let him. So he left. He started mouthing off, flaunting and chafed from pretty to Floyd

After a match he literally says "I act like this cause it sells tickets". In many interviews after that he says the same thing. You want the bad guy to lose. You'll pay to see him lose. This persona ain't even me. I just do it to sell tickets

If mayweather was quiet, reserved and just as good. He'd be paquico level or Andre ward. Pac never even made more than 20 mil a fight. Ward can't even get people to watch and he's undefeated. shyt the kliscko brothers barely do numbers and they been winning for years

Who makes the big money. Tyson, Ali, mayweather. Who's name gets know. The ones who run their mouth. Broner got chin checked and the world loved it. Cause the a$$hole he was. If he kept winning and acting that way. Then Floyd retired. He'd be next up making money before ward

I admire Simmons for wanting to be his own man and stand on his own 2...but business wise it is a bad look...

ESPN could outright crush him if they wanted to...

Depending on how much control they have over Grantland they could just absorb every great writer on that site into ESPN...

Bill has sort of gotten washed up and does way more of the gossip conspiracy stuff instead of real sports coverage now...

I remember he spent weeks trying to talk to Zach Lowe about Lebron juicing and Zach being like "yeah I'm not talking about that at all:whoa:"
