The issue that goes hand in hand with it is its classists and I wish more people would address that part of it
I agree.

Oh, just to add, I been to MANY Harlem barbershops, ain't NEEEEEEEVER heard no shyt like this. Never ever. Some be having gay nikkas in there doing hair too, like the dread flat twists and stuff. I knew one and he was fiery gay. Like, you see him across the street and be like, ':patrice: Yeah, that nikka gay.' I used to share perfume samples with him.:pachaha:

You're being disingenuous, but I'll answer in good faith. Rap is, ostensibly, created by those same black men, so that's them creating their own image, for better or worse. This, otoh, is negative imagery produced by outsiders.

Similar to how women call each other bytches but you better not. :usure:

In group vs out group, sociology 101. I realize that certain :mjpls: members of our community make a strange pastime out of pathologizing perfectly human actions when they're performed by bp, but it's really just that simple.

I'm not being disingenuous at all, it's an argument I make on here all the time but your response doesn't really address the critique people have with this clip even though it's an angle I can appreciate. If this barbershop scene was a more accurate portrayal of real world Black barbershops, there'd be no issue with who made it. The general consensus is that this scene serves to make Black men look bad, if that's the source of the backlash here then why isn't that same concern shown for the Black men that create "art" that makes Black men look like genocidal psychopaths?

I understand the OPs point but to me, countering this is easy. Just dont watch the show. To me, this right here can easily be ignored.

But thats not to say that there isnt an ungoing effort for the infiltration of black peoples spaces from outsiders with agendas being helped out by the sellouts. As a black gay man that has been to black barbershops all my life, i cannot cosign this agent shyt that i see some of these other black gay folks doing because these folks literally are throwing the entire black community including themselves under the bus. This narrative of black people being more homophobic than everybody other group including white people, which the white lgbtq community is on code in terms of speaking about the homophobia amongst white people where there were laws passed and shyt all over the damn world, has to stop. Its a false narrative thats being pushed by folks outside the black community to demonize it. They tried to make a documentary about that shyt and it didnt go anywhere luckily. The point is there is an ungoing effort.

gay in black barbershop documentary - Google Search

Its always these fools that see themselves as everything but black doing shyt like this so dont expect them to speak for you as a black person. These fools arent interested in talking to you and having a conversation. They are more interested in warring than peace.

Y’all are correct to be outraged about this but @Matt504 is correct that you all should be equally outraged by the Boosies and Da Baby’s of the world and how they harm our collective image as black men.

too many elders in thereto let shyt like that fly, and alot of the customers been coming to that barbershop since they was kids so there's a rapport and respect factor that comes automatically not to mention the relationship have with a specific barber.

the barbershop IS Mecca, It is the black man's tabernacle, and last remnants of a communal energy; a place where the voice of our elder stands for something. It's well understood you dont come in there with the foolishness because you will quickly get ostracized and told not to come back. It's a safe space for our women too, that goes without saying. aint no women being groped up sexually assaulted /haraased.

you'd sooner find degeneracy in these churches before a black barbershop, FOH

far as men convo go

50% sports talk
30% current affairs (whatever is in the news, typically amongst the OGs)
10% Talking about life , dropping gems etc.
10% Back in the day talk

women have their own topics in the barbershop, but none of it is wild vulgar shyt

there might be some tea spilling or side talk about another chick with a fukked up edges or something.

nikkas couldnt come in with the extra saggin pants down to their mid thigh cussing every other word just being ignorant as fukk, you WILL get checked and kicked out

same goes for women, you cant come up in there dressed for a porno shoot or the late shift at a strip club. you will get checked or kicked out

you will respect the presence of elders, women or kids. it's not up for debate

I've been to over 30 barbershops in my life, and never took long for it to feel like home again, because for the most part it's all the same experience.

everybody involved with narrative flipping and meddling of black affairs needs to die the most horrible of deaths.

we dont need some cave monkey and their band of disposable c00ns speaking on us or for us, we can police ourselves

for real they all can die , run head first into a wood chipper, fukkem

Bruh I've been going to barbershops my whole life and there's no way you'll hear language like that, let alone cussing I'm front of women

Exactly that has never ever been allowed. Especially raw sexual explicit language is a no no no. Many barber shops have signs saying no foul language.

Pretty much all black barber shops are mixed company. Meaning you have young children, young mothers, young males, older males, older women, grandparents and etc in the shop. So either the owner would tell the barber to watch his mouth or another barber would tell him to watch his mouth or one of the customers would tell him to watch his mouth.

I have even seen a barber say something like "shyt"and then be like excuse me I am sorry didn't mean to say that around the children or elders or ladies.

That type of language isn't tolerated.

This is fake media Hollywood propaganda. This is like saying showing up on Sunday to a black church with just your underwear on would be accepted by everyone at the church.

I'm not gonna say that but dudes aren't gonna risk messing up the money to talk like teens in a locker room in the middle of a barbershop, outside of weirdos.

Exactly hair cuts 35 and 40 and 50 bucks now. Ain't no barber doing all that shyt if anything he gonna be like let me shut up and make this money.

Second ain't no grown man 30 and older out here telling another man how he skeeted all on a girl. Dude gonna be like umm man I didn't ask for all that you can keep that to yourself.

it ain’t even this deep most of the times. Most shops people just mind their business, go on their phones, get a cut and go home.
