Black conservatives vs. Black liberals

The only thing I hear when I hear blks claiming to be conservative is social conservatism. And even then blks at MOST are moderates.

I don't know of many blks who hate gays or have fukks to give about LGBTQ. Not wanting those lifestyles to encroach on normative family structures and gender identities which are already fragile in our race isn't hate.

Otherwise, what conservative policies would blacks identify with? What conservative judges and laws would blks get behind? Which have benefitted our community?

I hear people say blks are conservative but politically I can't get anybody to explain how any conservative values outside of social leanings fit our community.

It doesn't make sense.

You may be right out of two out of three.

However, on the last, across the board and across racial groups there is a belief that taxes, at least on the richest people, should be raised.

Also blacks tend to have more progressive views on changes to institutions in government such as criminal justice reform and social safety nets (medicare, snap, medicaid, unemployment, etc)



Its more accurate to say that blacks, in general, don't fit in a neat box on either side and if it wasn't for the racism, Republicans could make more inroads on some issues with blacks than they do now.

How? If the alternative is conservatism, explain how it is helpful fiscally and legislatively to our community. Also has there been any historical precedent of conservative political values helping our community.

The death penalty?so you think black people want the death penalty for drug dealers like Trump?
Black people tend to think there are people who do certain types of crimes like pedophiles,rapist,baby killers who automatically deserve the death penalty.We are moreso a case by case basis type of people when it comes to death penalty,but lean mostly against it.
But also many of us aren't that anti abortion if you believe the statistics.
Far as gun laws,I would say that is also a reach,as we tend to be pro gun when its a neccesity unlike cacs who just want to stockpile weapons for no good reason.
But to say we SUPPORT the same gun laws is a reach. Black people who aren't criminals aren't against having some sort of controls,and fall closer to democrats.
Lower taxes?of course we want more of our money back,and black people can clearly see that conservatives are mostly about lower taxes for the rich so we definitely don't see them as kindrid spirits,as we see right through their bullshyt.
If anything you would have to say blacks are more independent,which is why we need our own party.

black people are "conservative" (through religion) but not conservative in terms of the way republicans have shaped and formed what it means to be conservative.

republicans have allowed their party to be hijacked by the alt-right, neo-nazis, confederates, white supremacist, etc. to where now being conservative means to adopt those white supremacist ideals.

funny thing is a lot of black people are more for socialism and socialism is the sworn enemy of conservatives.

Okay, so you have a broader scope? In the broader scope of what it means to be a conservative, how are black people conservative?

People in the tlr usually bring up religious reasons for why black people are conservative and usually stop at that. They might try to tie in lgbt and abortion but that actually falls under religion. And even then do you really see black folk picketing abortion clinics?


Outside of preserving traditional morality as it is articulated in the bible, being a conservative also includes 100% embracement of capitalism, spreading democracy around the world via imperialism, etc, etc... There's really too many tenets too list

I think Black people are social conservatives but from a policy standpoint, I would say we are centrists, maybe a little left of center. It's just the people on the margins are the most vocal.
