Didn't they just have race riots in Charlotte a few years ago? One of the most racists cities in the South.

There is racial tension in Charlotte but it absolutely is NOT one of the most racist southern cities...

I thought there was a decent amount of federal government jobs there? I know the Navy has a presence.

Blacks are normally over represented in government, although that's starting to change. More minorities in general and less blacks specifically from what I see.

The economy is government work and service sector, that's pretty much it. It isn't a diversified economy and you need clearances for certain gov work, so it shyts on alota Black Tidewater there too...

I don’t think percentages mean much here. 400K black people means 400K black people which is a strong network of blacks.

A tiny city that is 60% black and has only 100K blacks for example still has a smaller network of blacks.

100% this...

This Haitian chick I was talking to a few weeks back told me on her visit to Charlotte she noticed there wasn’t any middle class black neighborhoods and that Charlotte was one of those cities that is white and poor black.

I’ve been to Charlotte before but never really explored the city since it was a road trip with my mom.

City looked very nice to me and it’s one of the few southern states I can see myself living in.

Doesn’t seem filled with fake people either.

Charlotte has plenty of middle class black areas, though it is also true that there is a decent amount if poverty...

The issue with Charlotte is the influx of transplanted blacks to Clt in the last 20 years has included a grip of impoverished blacks, people who saw Clt as a golden road to prosperity but brought the same characteristics with them that hindered them previously....

For sure there are a TON of cities with higher impoverishment than Clt...

And I will say, Raleigh is better, in proportion of middle class black neighborhoods. But they in Clt too...

Another thing on Clt, it is pretty diverse. Like 15% Latino, 7% Asian, and East Charlotte has a grip of Eastern European immigrants. I can take you to South Blvd in South Charlotte and you'd think you were in Mexico lol. So its reasonably diverse, but what your friend is talking about more is the segregation--->it is that, too...

Far less of a pretentious place than Atlanta...

Some DC blacks are moving out of DC and into the surrounding Maryland counties.

Nikkas even getting pushed even out of PG. Hyattsville, Greenbelt, CP and even New Carrolton are getting more mixed in population.

Dudes are getting pushed out to Charles County.

Are there any upper middle class black parts of Memphis?

Every time I see Memphis it’s orange mound, fraiser or some other ratchet part

Memphis is 65% black, it's too black to not have some well off areas...

Quiet as kept, there are pockets of black success throughout South Memphis, Midtown, and East Memphis. And the burbs too, like @*DalMem* said...

The problem is all the racist people who commute into the city. These people are from the surrounding hick towns in NC and SC. Lots of these people are in positions of power and can make hiring and firing decisions.

You are right. Memphis has some well off areas. I don't know how often people get to Memphis, but the next time they are there they should check out Cordova, Germantown, Collierville, Lakeland, Arlington, etc. Like you said Memphis proper has some very nice old neighborhoods and some very nice new neighborhoods too. A few years ago a cousin of mine moved into a brand new house in a South Memphis development. That house was huge and really nice. The neighborhood itself was a very nice middle class African American community.

Doesn’t Memphis have the highest percentage of black owned businesses in America?

In whole the cities black population are better cities than the declining ones, so it seems like a good look. But I think it's just those cities are growing in population across the board

When I traveled to New Orleans last week many of the black residents felt the same way about their city.

Must be another class of black folks moving in.
This could be it :mjpls:

I have some:mjpls:relatives who recently moved to Texas from Cali they felt uncomfortable in Houston and Dallas:mjpls: but felt right at home in Austin, and live around nothing but hipster cacs and "POC"

:mjpls:.

Most of the list is not surprising since most of these cities are either run down or very expensive cities battling gentrification but I’d like to know the backstory of the cities i bolded and why black people are leaving these places.
I just looked it up and St Paul's number went up from 11% to 15% so I don't know how they got on that list
DC black population growing :jawalrus:

Charlotte and Minneapolis have had impressive growth although in think Minneapolis' growth is mostly East Africans
Eh East Africans been in MN for years. Definitely were when I was coming up so IDK how much that accounts for it
