Do you have to be an intellectual to be a feminist? Are you saying femininst are some elite group that work behind the scenes to issue protocols on what black women should and should not be doing?
What are these "burdens" that black women have that other women don't have??
And when have black women ever been oppressed by their men in America?

name them.
Sierra...
I think what he's trying to say is that black men takes cues from the white patriarchy,(as do every other group) though does it really matter if so few black men actually are actually practicing patriarchs in their communities? I think Black Men are the least patriarchal men on the planet.
of course not. BUT, within every movement you have people who have a deeper understanding of what their movement is about and are therefore taken more seriously in the academic world
A celebrity like Kanye West can call himself a black activist, and he'll certainly be more recognizable. but his opinion won't hold the same weight in academic circles as someone like James Baldwin. that doesn't mean Kanye isn't a black activist it just means that his views, academically speaking, will not hold more precedence over someone like Baldwin, regardless of what the average person thinks. the same thing applies to the black feminist movement
as for the examples that UnAmericanDreamer posted, Morrison and Walker are the only ones I've seen blatantly refer to themselves as black feminists. though I could be wrong. still to group them with the likes of superhead and Steve Harvey and imply that they somehow share the same viewpoints and are pushing the same agendas strikes me as being a bit ridiculous

still haven't named any burdens black women have that no other race of women don't have. I'm about to talk to some of my friends from the Middle East about that shyt and see what they have to say about that.![]()
but what's the harm in pointing out these cues while still making the main focus on racist white male patriarchy? that's the point of black feminism. and it's way more than "a few black men" who are influenced by it
black feminism = white supremacy
And I was say that years before Nasheed ever said it.
Black feminists contend that the liberation of black women entails freedom for all people, since it would require the end of racism, sexism, and class oppression.
