Again with the namecalling read my statement again. You said that that only PWIs are in the conversation. I gave you Howard then you went rambling about Grambling and stuff of course all schools are not equal in terms of rep.

Secondly as someone born and raised in DC and grew up on Georgia Ave 5 minutes from Howard's campus, I have family that wrnt to Howard and know that Howard otself is diverse in socio economic status and the types of Black people fromm sll over the WORLD and country attend the institution.

THAT'S MY POINT !

When we say black- Im talking about African American, Black American, not internationally or none of that shyt you're talking of- so obviosuly howard would be in discussion because these students either grew up around white people or have immigrant backgrounds-

Why is that hard for you to understand?:dwillhuh:

People wanna juelz around this point but it’s the truth. I see this every day in my line of work.

You hate to see it. I’m getting to the age now where I gotta call a spade a spade. If you c00ning you c00ning.

People know exactly what the writer is referring to in this article but will skirt around the point she’s trying to make.

What's the point?...All the black people that are hired are really white people in disguise....?

That’s not what I’m saying in the least.

However there are those who are whitewashed, and get in those positions. I see it where I’m at and I’d go as far as to say others see it in their line of work as well.

I think she's :duck: of it. :yeshrug: Not only that, she, herself seems and looks like the "whitest black candidate". Silicon Valley isn't turning down a great black developer because they're from the hood. Far from it. If anything that's exactly who a multi-billion dollar corporation like Google would hire because it would make them look "so progressive". She out here sounding like a bootleg Toure knowing good and well if they hired "black" people, she'd be writing on some blog about how her coworkers are embarrassing her around white people. :camby: Had to give this 3 stars solely because of her alone. :francis:

Also if you ever go to NSBE you can see how google, apple and DoD get down.

DoD companies will be literally hiring entry level black engineers on the spot. I have seen whole groups of young black folks hired.

Then you look at the google and apple booths and they taking resumes telling them kids "we will keep in touch....thanks".

Maybe because other black folks do things like tell them that they aren't "traditional black people" whatever the fukk that means. :francis:

Nope...there are black professionals that I have ran into who don't want to fukk with black folks and will tell you.

Until white management fukks them over and they run to the black folks at work asking for help.

If you’re attending this highly unlikely you’re “black” black fam. Closest you might be to it is you live around it but you actually one stop it.

I mean we talking about stereotypes and stuff so yea I agree with you
That's why I said if you work in corporate america certain black people going claim you not really "black" regardless of your background
It's dumb and defeatist and almost penalizes people for "making it" but whatever
No a person that works at Google and makes $200k+ a year is not going to end every sentence with "yamean" or agree with whatever dumb hood law is prevailing at the time
If people reduce blackness to that so be it but it's sad

Sorry this doesn't make sense and what shes saying probably Applys to you.
what doesnt make sense? there are these things called school buses, that pick up students from multiple neighborhoods , and drop them off at.....
....

schools.

At my school it was very multicultural and people tended to chill with their own race (while being cool with everyone else nonetheless). All my friends, most of which i met in high school or elementary school are black. Specifically, theyre all Jamaican or Ghanaian.

Maybe they have PTSD from "traditional blacks" telling them their whole life that they aren't "traditionally black" because their parents worked to give them a better life and more opportunities. :manny:

TBH, this is ignorant as a STEM graduate. Because despite being commonly thought as ..."suburban"/nerd, I went to school and attended classes with other brehs who fit more stereotypical imagery of what "being black" means. They were getting a degree and going through the same shyt I was going through. They were trying to get a degree just like me and were just as qualified. They deserve equal consideration.

But I will say that those same brehs when they went on interviews did all the same "right" things and code switch that any other person does because that is just how it works. People got to drop the ego and realize that while we wish this situation was as blind as justice which we can't even get perfect in this country, you're dealing with a human system and you have to prioritize what is important. If your goal is to work for a corporation you have to realize just based on human behavior if people feel they can "relate to you" they will view you more favorable. That is a human bias I don't think you can ever completely train out of people. You will have to suck up your pride and "code switch" if you're interviewing with these white as white can be or some Asian who grew up around nothing but Asian or white people in silicon valley. You have to maximize your chances anyway you can if getting a job in such an environment is that important to you. Otherwise, perhaps look for another avenue.

This can be done without c00ning and demeaning your blackness by the way. I notice that it seems hard for some black people to find that nuance, unfortunately.

This chick article is perhaps just observational but if she is hoping that her critique will change it, good luck. The sad thing is, you can perhaps guilt people with these biases to actively act against them but then I don't trust most human beings ability to make a measured change unfortunately if they are essentially guilted into action. Their biases and prejudice will seep through in some way. People don't have that much discipline.
with respect to code switching...

if i understand the term correctly...talking to white people the way i talk to my friends, during an interview...would only breed confusion and prevent it from going smoothly. The reason is because they probably wouldnt understand what I'm even saying given the slang and age difference. Why is that an issue? If youre interviewing with a director or somebody 20 years older than you, why would you expect to be able to talk to them the same way you talk to your friends. People code switch for not just work, but for all sorts of reasons: when talking to your friends, vs your girlfriend, vs your parents vs coworkers etc. It is what it is
