I think it's considered country side, and that would be near tibet. it's ethnically different and where most of chinese ethnic minority stay, I hear it's got beautiful variety landscapes, not as many large cities etc. they have a ugyur minority there, few muslims cities - the food from the west (chinese muslim food) is my favorite followed by sichuan hot pots.
