"Im puerto rican not black"
"Im not like those AA"

N no there a clear difference between a black latinos and AA. Our experience as AA are vastly different than those from Latin America and even other groups of black people. Other than us sharing the same skin color and being slaves we are not the same culturally.

People have to understand that Black Latino/as are very naive to race relations. They try to say America is "race obsessed" and yet their own countries is just AS race obsessed if not more with their different layers of categories and obsession with distancing themselves from "Black." Not all Black Latinos are like this but there are LEVELS depending on the countries. Island Latinos seem to have it the worse while those like Afro-Colombians and Afro-Brazilians not as bad. The ones I listed from South America at least KNOW how to differentiate between race, nationality and ethnicity. I personally believe this due to Afro-Colombians and Afro-Brazilians faced more DIRECT extreme White Supremacy and can no longer deny it while the same is not said for Cubans, Puerto Ricans and Dominicans of African descent.
