Perhaps, but that wasn’t even the point of his talk. The point of his talk was why is American mainstream comfortable profiting off of Black violence where they aren’t comfortable doing so with other negative topics?
If a white artist made music about committing mass shootings, or committing suicide, or torturing animals, advertisers would back away. No radio station would play thrive on music that had a substantial amount of these topics. But they have no problem promoting Black folk killing each other. Now sure you can argue that it’s art imitating life, but a depressed CaC making music about mass murder, suicide, and animal torture would be art imitating life too. Yet advertisers and broadcast are very touchy with profiting off those subjects. They may let a few songs here there go, but they wouldn’t promote a genre dominated by it.
