Maybe if we would support black artist more we would have better music. I feel that we are so busy trying to not be black that we are falling off. Oh I can't make a soulful recorded Because that won't sell

:wtfdraper: So do you think Black music sucks right now or not? If not then I wasn't talking to you because we're in agreement... Or did you just want to just flex the fact that you listen to a little Jazz :pachaha:

Robert Glaper Experience, "Black Radio" proves this thread wrong Is all I am saying...

No beef. I agree with what you're saying.

What's even more fukked up is that these companies are trying their hardest to push that K-Pop :trash: in the states and that may be the death kneel for Urban Music if something doesn't get done.

As long as Lalah Hathaway still exists on this Planet, I don't want to here shyt about Black music sucking...
Robert Glasper & Lalah Hathaway - Cherish The Day - YouTube

She has a great voice but this ain't a hit. I like Vivian Green but she hasn't produced a hit. I don't know if it's production or songwriting but it's rare to have a five star R&B track nowadays. Miguel "Adorn" was easily the best R&B track this year.

You know a hit when you hear it the first time.

:blessed:

What's worse is your four star tracks like the ones SWV specialized at are even rarer. I rarely hear four star tracks anymore.

That Cee-lo and Melanie Fiona remix was the last four star R&B track I've heard from a Black artist.

"This ain't a hit"

:wtfdraper: You know how many Miles Davis classics weren't "a hit"

If your measure on the state of Black Music is how often white radio stations play their music and make them a "hit" then I guess I'm gonna bow out of this convo

The album won a Grammy so dude is doing something right..

GLasper will be around in 30 years still creating great pieces.. We'll see if Miguel is around in 3...

EDIT: What is great about that Lalah singing on that track I posted is that was one take... It was a practice run and improvised and Glasper just put it on his album... fukking art right there...

Pretty much.

Honestly, I think country is much better now than it was in 1998. While I liked Faith Hill and LeAnn Rimes at times, the males were horrible especially Garth Brooks overrated self. You know you are overrated when your music doesn't hold water ten years from now. Look at the music in Hip Hop ten years ago. While a lot of rappers were popular like Lil Flip and others how many do people still rock with?

Look at Adele, people will still rock 19 and 21. Look at Rihanna. Her sh*t is wack, no one will be listening to it in 10 years. People still listen to Mariah Carey and Earth, Wind, and Fire. Great music last forever, it doesn't catch trends.

I didn't say it wasn't quality music, I said it wasn't a hit. Big difference.

dumb nikkas continue to validate these award shows, and then complain about how they represent their culture, and their music...:what:

this is the point of the whole internet, affording people the oportunity to not only be heard as artists easier, but also for fans to be more selective about what they listen to and promote, anybody on here COMPLAINING about the grammys, that actually watched them really just reinforce the idea that they should continue to decide what music should be awarded.

Once male artists go back to respecting women it will be betta o.

I hear you bro. But look at the rappers who show feeling and emotion in regards to women... guys like Drake, Wale, etc. get clowned for displaying their fear, insecurity, love and appreciation for women. It's considered simping to love now? WTF

Hip-Hop needs to cut it out with the fake bravado, super thug gangster disciple act....it's played out and doesn't resonate with the masses.

Dude, we're not validating shyt. This convo is a long time coming.

It's easier for us to talk about the state of black music now, because we said it back then.

It's not just black music, all music sucks nowadays :manny:

Not true. Country music is still trucking right along.

They "kept it real". And although it's no longer a bunch of male singers wearing cowboy hats, it's still managed to maintain it's audience.

We need a Black music townhall meeting. Time to get these controlling cacs out of hip hop and R&B.

Trey Songz making songs called "bytches and Drinks"
Frank Ocean getting to the Grammy simply because he's gay.
We got old n*ggas with Boyz In Da Hood hats and dressed like Zorro
We got Degrassi stars talking about catching bodies like that.
We got talentless whores as the biggest artists.
This can't be music, this is all terrible :trash:. Come up with some solutions to rebuild Black music?

Alot of the younger people are not interested in in anything if it's not rap or hip-hop influenced.

Thus you get everyone trying to be a rapper and trying to outdo each other outlandishly leading to genres like R&B having no place on urban radio and as a result, in order to fit they have to "thug it up" . Also it leads to a lack of muscianship b/c young black ppl are no longer interested in learning guitar & piano.

There's good music out there but you have to look for it.
