dumb nikkas continue to validate these award shows, and then complain about how they represent their culture, and their music...:what:

this is the point of the whole internet, affording people the oportunity to not only be heard as artists easier, but also for fans to be more selective about what they listen to and promote, anybody on here COMPLAINING about the grammys, that actually watched them really just reinforce the idea that they should continue to decide what music should be awarded.

That's great that the outlet for music has increase with the internet but the overall influence in music is still mainstream just like FCS has the best system for college football teams but no one really watches that much, it's all about the big BCS. That's where the big boys play at. That's where most of the attention goes but if you are an artist, the internet era is better to you than just underground and struggling.

What the Grammy's are is a report card of our music. Let's be honest, the music sucked this year and it has sucked for awhile for Black folks. This is soulless music. Let's say you eat Gumbo. You usually eat it from your grandmother in Louisiana but you decided to try some in DC. That sh*t is a joke. While it has the ingredients of gumbo, the gumbo is horrible in your view. You are used to Louisiana Gumbo that is trawled for 6 hours. That is properly mixed with the right meats, spices, and veggies as well as the Rice to make your mouth water but at the restaurant. They didn't have time to do it.

That's my deal with music. It lacks passion, soul, and effort. It's just a lot of ideas just crammed into a notepad for sell. Anyone can do that, Lil B proved it but this is an industry wide issue. You can't fake soul, you either have it or you don't.

I listened to three Trey Songz albums, every single one left me like Frank O albums. It was kind of pointless and lack soul. Now it didn't lack passion but without soul in soul music, is it really purposeful.

there needs to be a barometer to measure success

purist opinion is not gonna cut it

award shows, record sales, radio spins, magazine covers, etc.
are just that...they are the statistical category to measure an artist's worth whether we like it or not.

we can ignore these factors when it comes to measure an artists relevance, progress and achievement but we are only deluding ourselves. Every other genre does the same, why should HIP-HOP be any different?

When Black artists try to step out of the box and do new different things. They get criticized for being gay, or weird, or trying to hard. Viva la Kid Cudi, Drake, Kanye, ASAP, Wiz etc.

Black Music aint gon get better till all these old fakkits die off and the people of my generation are the old heads who are more accepting and accommodating to new ideas and experimentation.

Its the truth breh, jus look at how the Coli feels about a kid like Drake :skip:

Still aint stopping him from gettin them Grammys tho :mjpls:

Let me know if Drake is still around in Ten years.

If he's there for the long haul, I'll give him his props. If not, he'll be just like a lot of the artists were back in the late 80s and early 90s, a memory.

We need to get back to being Black. We doing so much stuff that us as a people never did before it's unbelievable. We really lost ourselves once we were tricked into mixing with the very people who have always hated us. It took some time but the end result is a people who forgot what it means to be Black. The music is a reflection of trying to be something we're not. The fashions, hairstyles and way of life the artist represent simply don't represent us. Or it represents us one day out of the week when we at the club but then it's back to reality. Strippers, making it rain, fancy cars, poppin' bottles aint the average persons day in and day out. Artist better put the struggle we face as a people back in the music or continue to whine about nobody buying cd's.

I agree, but the average person's viewpoint can be summed up below.

I was listening to guys like EPMD and they were broke for the most part. Even LL was rapping about things that were real like love and love for rhyming and even then you had your materialist brotha like Big Daddy Kane but now it's like, you are either a whore, weird, or a thug. You can only be what white people want you to be. You can't be yourself but Black first. Even Pac said, "I remember when Marvin Gaye used to sing to me, had me feeling like Black was the thing to be".

Well then the thread should be changed to "Hip Hop sucks right now brehs" because It isn't the only genre of music that is Black music...

You don't really have to "Look for it".... The Jazz section in best buy is just as easy to find as the hip hop/rap section... You' just have very narrow tastes in music:manny:
