Only the people who came just to be seen will say that. The folks who enjoyed it from the beginning will be happy that it kept it's soul
I get this and I agree with you.

People aren’t posting enough positive.. or whatever they’d consider positive content from this event. They’re posting the “OMG WHAT IS HAPPENING TO DREAMCON!!!??” ass content that will only attract more of the people they don’t want there. Post the good shyt so hoped more of the people you want there will show up. Posting Meg thee stallion and chicks twerking to Lil Jon ain’t helping.

having a convention being co-opted can also invite a lot of posers and nikkas who just wanna go to try and fukk chics who do cosplay

people need they own spaces, dreamcon should make a new event thats only for black folks and pop culture

I think the people that like the initial concept are posting this to let others of like mind know things are changing and not in a good way

Like most conventions this will probably start the beginning of a black convention splintering.

No he isn't right.
I know because I would but that time frame only 20-25 years ago.

That said we had our own spaces for black nerds and real, non sports , video gamers. We would find each other and interact on PC and we would LAN as well, Xbox made that shyt even easier

We never wanted anything other than a collection of people who focused on the interest. The funny part is it was a open community we didn't hate on anyone and invited other blacks into the space, as long as the interest and community was the priority there was no issue

Now days due to casualness of everything you have these kids who want the same spaces I had when I was young except they are getting kicked out of it by idiots who just are too lazy to make their own space and own events and want to take over something already established.

That is all this is
Using "blacks" is certainly a choice

I've been in these spaces too and he's right. I remember the amount of hate you would get from just being a black cosplayer. And there's a wide spectrum of people at these conventions: the nerds in the gaming hall that don't wear deodorant or take showers that spend all day there, the cosplayers, the autograph collectors, the shoppers, the dudes that be at the hentai rooms (if they have them) and the people who have these interests and just there for a good time. Most convention goers are in the latter and are there to socialize.

I use black because I am black and I can speak with authority on the black gamer, nerd, sci-fi and comic space of the 90s and 00s. I was there. My dad took me with him to trek conventions in the late 80s. There were spaces in those conventions where is fellow blacks sought each other out and made friends and connections.

I always joked on cosplayers I hate that shyt and think it's attention seeking. But I hate it for everyone. You ignore that initially cosplaying was a small segment within the larger nerd culture that gradually got acceptance from the whole.

But now I know OG cosplayers who hate what it has become especially how casual women use it to over sexualize characters for attention. It used to be a source of pride in how detailed and how much care was taken. Now it's about sexualization.

Yeah nerds always had geeks and dorms in proximity, they were tolerated as they still were part of the general culture.

They have been pushed out of fandom in most segments and have had to build their own groups. Sad that black fandoms have to do the same and so quickly

i did notice this, I've been to a lot of conventions. And people i'm with that have gone to alot of them always cringe at the mom walking in half naked dressed like Psylocke. handing hands with her child dressed like a ninja turtle.

But people i bring that have never been to one are usually like, this how yall get down out here? i thought it was going to be boring nerd stuff. and suddenly they become regulars. Posing with the cosplayers for photos :mjlol:
I don't mind it either way, you still have a mix of people who took a lot of care to be perfect replicas of characters and sexual attention seekers. just set dressing for me,

And? So have I, where I was brought by my uncle. And cosplaying is not all sexualization. We still have have competitions and we donate our cosplays to put on display at these conventions. Don't forget the many panels where we discuss the hobbies and help each other by teaching techniques You just don't exist in those spaces.

And you have not been pushed out. Some of y'all don't know how to act around normal people and be following women or outright quizzing them on the shyt they like.

DDG and his brother owe RDC an apology, even though I don't think DDG's crew was necessarily wrong. They were just protecting the money maker
