No matter how educated we are, no matter how smart, no matter how right we are white people always want to take a hundred steps back. Everything we know, they won't admit. They won't engage. They will unlearn. Hate. Fear.

Talking about reparations is considered hate speech to these people. Trump is going to get these "moderate" white people. And after 2024 there is no pendulum for us. White people just regress further.

Or...could a candidate step in and Christopher Hitchens/Ta-Nehisi Coates these people into knowledge and shame? I would be impressed if Warren or Harris could do it, but I doubt there are enough dem strategists who are capable of being knowledgeable and supportive of these positions. Lastly, conservatives would rather burn the country down than pass a single reparations dollar. They would put in someone twice as insane as Trump just to punish us for even talking about it.

Breh many white people in this country refuse to support policies that would PUT MONEY IN THEIR OWN POCKETS, because black people MAY also benefit. What makes you think they’re going to be OK with a policy that gives money only to black people?

There’s definitely been a movement for reparations that’s been fighting for decades, but I agree that the most recent bump in coverage that we’ve seen is related to people trying to divide black community from Dem party.

Trump is in office because democrats were pushing this nutty scheme to grant citizenship to 11 million illegal immigrants and non enforcement of us immigration laws to make the us essentially an open borders bilingual country

Yet democrats are willing to shut down the government and are still pursuing the same exact policies that created trump

So who is really the stupid person and political naive person here? And Why are people willing to sacrifice political capital for non citizens but won't do it for actual citizens? Where people having similar incredulous reactions when democrats came out for gay marriage and now continue pushing a gay rights agenda?

Apples and Oranges. Immigration reform doesn't directly transfer one penny.

Reparations, if done right, will cost trillion plus. White people would rather burn this place down than give that or any kind of money to ONLY black people.

They are both political issues, I completely understand the question of whether it makes sense to use reperations as a stance but keep that same energy and logic with other issues, does it make sense for black people to make giving citizenship to illegal immigrants a political stance

You are in the era of "white anxiety" - where a lot of whites are scared of becoming the minority, upset that everyone around them appears to be "receiving" while they believe they are "giving" and where you can elicit their worst fears by simply calling them a racist.

The black populace deserves reparations in some form due to the systematic oppression that was the foundation of the Jim Crow era and which quietly persisted into the present day leaving blacks at a significant disadvantage compared to all other people born in or outside of this country. But the fact remains that any relevant movement on reparations will become a conveniently and overused strawman for everything from the economy to crime, I don't see it ever happening.
