4) would you raise your own family in the suburbs?

I just figured this could be a useful thread for everybody involved.

I did not grow in the surburbs, but I would live in a black middle class surburb, there are a few in Broward county in Florida.

Also, they will not go to a white school. The black schools might not be great, but at least kid will be well rounded, and I'll make sure they are a leader not a follower.

I've lived half my life in the hood and the other half in suburbs so I guess I can sort of answer this.

1. Better schools.........less danger.
2. Nope. I claim my hood before I claim this suburb :manny:
3. No. I don't act like a stereotypical suburban person. White people are a minority in my suburb anyways.
4. Nah.....it's wack.....people don't even be outside

I have some questions for you....

1) how did growing up in the burbs help you or hurt you?
2) have you ever been chastised or ridiculed by other black people because of your background?
3) have you ever been patronized by white people because of your background? (Ie...saying stuff like "you're different", "you're not like the others")
4) would you raise your own family in the suburbs?

I just figured this could be a useful thread for everybody involved.

1) I guess it helped because I had access to great schools and was around a bunch of rich people :mjpls:
2) No, for the most part black people didn't/don't care. I occasionally get called white girl or barbie but it's more so joking than insults.
3) omfg yeah I always got the "you're a pretty black girl" "I don't usually like black chicks" "you're not like other black girls" (a black dude said the last one :mjlol:)
4) yeah, I'm going to.

At the beginning of mean streets
I didn't grow up in the burbs, but my mother's side of the family is somewhat well-off/educated, and they used to look down on her for having me grow up in the city. Being around some black kids from the suburbs during college really made me thankful for that, having little to no awareness until you're about 18/19 and being hit with that reality of racism sucks. I can't say it's the same for ALL black suburban kids, just the ones I was around. :ld:

I grew up in a mix of places and city's. Started in a suburbs, homeless, projects, back to suburbs.

1. Growing up there didn't hurt or help... Mainly because the burbs I grew up in were in majority black cities. So I don't even know if you could call them suburbs. I barely saw white people until I moved to GA. And even the neighborhood we lived in there was mostly black

2. Nah not really. If I got criticized it was for other shyt. Most my friends are from worser areas than me but we're all different/similar in certain ways. And if you didn't like me chances are I didnt fukk with them anyway

3. I've been told I'm different but like I said, chances are if you didn't like me I didnt care to fukk with you anyway. Most my white friends are ones I connect with in music, art, DJ'ing, producing, weightlifting/football, etc.

4. It would be the only way I would raise kids. I don't want them to ever live worse than I did. There's plenty of ways to learn how to be a man or a man of color without growing up in poverty.

1. Helped me with race relations I guess. Encountered racism heavy outwardly but was unaware of systematic racism until college.
2. Yeah I was I guess. Just joking nothing like outward hate.
3. Yeah when I was 13-15 meeting girls parents they used to say I was different.
4. I would raise my FAM in the burbs. Less trouble to get into, I already got the attitude of getting fukked up and selling drugs early in life. I assume those attributes will be somewhat passed on, keeping in the burbs means less u can get into. Although I specifically moved to atl for black burbs. I never had a black kid in any class until I was a junior in Hugh school. don't want em like that

depending on your meaning of suburbs I should fit this. I didnt grow up like Carlton on fresh prince. I was a military brat. I lived in mostly white cities. After the my dad retired I stayed in cleveland for a bit (most my fam is from there) but I lived in Garfield Hts. I currently live in san antonio and live on the northwest(white/semi wealthy side) Ive never lived in the ghetto but I did grow up with a few ghetto tendencies due to a lot of my cousins and stuff living that life style.

Anyways, i've been chastised by a few black friends before, but that was just them poking fun. Ive been patronized plenty of times by other races. This girl told me few weeks ago that we dont mix cause she's "eastside" and im "north" :what: I had to put her on blast real quick about the struggle my mom went through to raise me after my dad retired and they split :wow: other than that white people love me but im not no uncle tom. maybe its cause im not darkskin :jawalrus:

and yes, id raise my family in the suburbs. why is that even a question? I dont want raise them in a hood :mjlol:

1) Hell Yes. I had access to better schools
2) No not really outside of the odd joke about speaking "perfect english". Despite being from the suburbs I was always interested in most of the same things as other black kids(basketball, football, hip-hop, etc).
3) Not often, I never really associated with large groups of whites, I mainly chilled with other blacks, indians, and arabs. The only time whites get the nerve to patronize blacks(or other minorities) is when they have a clear number's advantage
4) Hell Yes

cats in Canada follow football. Or do you mean soccer:ohhh:
