Although this cop still needs to go to jail, until I know more of what happened, I put some of the blame on the person who called the cops, or on the managers of the bar that night. They were suppose to tell the cops what was up as soon as they arrived, knowing how trigger happy these cops can be, especially when there's a Black person involved. Just like when something in your house or your backyard is on fire, you're going to meet the firemen at your front door, or your back gate, if not on the street, and let them know what's up. Not saying somebody didn't do this, but it doesn't look like they did.
I remember a few summers ago while at Subway, this irritate middle aged homeless brother followed these teenage girls into the store, yelling and acting like he was going to take off his belt to whooped them. They ran out the back door like they were crying, but enjoying it at the same time. I think he was their father, and he was mad because he lost their respect...it didn't make any other sense. Anyway, a group of Black women sitting at the table near the door, split, leaving their chips and everything. I stayed, like most brothers did.
To get to the point, the Hispanic dude working behind the counter called the cops. And the homeless man left before the cop arrived. I remember telling the sister sitting at the table behind me, that when the cops arrived, I sure hoped they'd tell them I'm not that homeless brother. But wouldn't you know it, when that cop arrived, none of the workers behind the counter said anything to him, leaving him looking confused at the door. His face turned red because he didn't know if I was the culprit or not, being the only man there. I felt like all I had to do was get up, and I could have wounded up shot. So the Black women that was sitting behind me, had to get up and tell the cop that the culprit had left the store, and had headed in the direction to the right. I've never seen anything like this in my life. With all these recent unarmed brothers wounding up shot by White cops, I couldn't help but feel that the Hispanic dude working behind the counter, was hoping this would be another case of police profiling, mistaken identity, or worst case scenario, police brutality which could have lead to me getting killed.
The next time I saw him on duty, I confronted him in front of his co-workers who may have not been there that day, and told him the next time he called the cops, please tell them I'm not the person. I said that politely, when I should have been cussing him out. But he wounded up getting defensive, claiming he had customers to wait on. I looked at him like he was crazy. That's when I lit him up, for putting waiting customers in front of a situation that could have left an already paid customer dead. I think they let him go after I made my voice heard, because I never seen him again.
If the mistake that cop made this weekend in Chicago happened in the street instead, it would still be inexcusable. So there's no excuse for this kind of profiling or mistaken identity happening in a place of business, or a personal residence. Like that Hispanic dude at Subway, I wouldn't be surprised if whoever called the cops, or even the manager, or somebody else on duty, didn't care if something like this happening when the cops got there. You can't underestimate people these days.
PS. Remember that group of Black women in Subway that split, leaving their chips. Well don't you know one of those young Hispanic females working behind the counter came over to their table after that cop left, opened one of those bags of chips, and started munching. I know she wasn't that hungry. She could of at least showed me some respect, and took them in the back some where, instead of munching on them right in front of me, a fellow customer. It was as if she was clowning those sisters, like they were on the same level as that Black homeless dude. And these sisters were middle aged working women in their dress clothes, just out on their lunch break.We gotta stop trusting everybody.
