:usure:Not as much as Black women though. Many talk as though as if is a top 1 or 2 issue in the Black community when it isn't.

Maybe you're hanging out with the wrong type of black women. I think it's interesting that men who gripe about this seem to only interact with women who obsess over this issue. What is it about you that draws these types of black women? :mjpls:

Of course it's not.

Nothing that exclusively affects black women are "major concerns," or "major issues."Only things that plague black men are seen as "important," in the black community.& That's where our attention needs to be focused.

How does it effect you?

The Truth
If you are a Black man or Black woman that puts a light skin male or female over a dark skin male or female, then you are practicing not only colorism , you are also practicing a soft form of Racism.

keep pretending it's black men that created colorism/light skinned preference and not the white men you're running towards  but you didn't answer my question, what exactly is there to discuss? how are you fighting against it?

the only way to combat colorism is to promote beautiful dark skinned black women against biracial/light skinned/non-black women. but you're kinda dense and think the best way to combat colorism is to have a biracial daughter that'll have some other black girl feeling self conscious about herself.

What about colorism needs to be discussed?Well for starters, the black man's obsession with constantly berating dark skin women.
& Here we go.
:beli:

Let's keep blaming the white man.The white man makes black men write music that sh*ts on black women while praising xyz woman.White men make black men go out their way to berate dark skin black women.Awwww, the poor black man, he has no control over his actions. He can't help but to perpetuate colorism.

& Look at what you type, like I said before black men pit dark skin women & light skin women against each other. You're saying "beautiful," dark skin women need to be promoted against light skin women?:what: Why do they need to be put against each other period?& Please stop this I want to have mixed children non-sense.

Colorism isn't nearly as a big issue as racism and niether issue is going away so why obsess over it to the point that it becomes brow beating..

Discussing it,is not obsessing over it IMO.

This is quite untrue. You talk as though racism and colorism exist in different realms. What is worse being told your not particularly attractive because of your complexion (something quite subjective) or being say, murdered by a "model citizen" for an assumption he held about people who belong to your race?

But it is true, which is why this thread was made. You don't see it as "that important."& It's not that important to you because it does not affect you the way it affects a black woman.& I agree that colorism is a by product of racism. However, I don't agree that the discussion of racism alone is the only thing that's necessary.

:manny:why can't dudes have a preference?

women can prefer tall men

In all fairness MOST "preferences" are shaped by cultural and societal perceptions of value. Since value Blackness isn't valued in the west darker skin and african features isn't highly value either. The question is when is if you darker skinned what can you do about other than play to your strengths? How does complaining and brow beating people who don't appreciate your color change anything? Deal with those who like what you bring to the table. Try to improve on the good traits that already have. Life is unfair, make the best of it.

Exactly. So just deal with dudes who aren't colorstruck. They do exist you know.

I'm tired of the hate that dark skin black women recieve in the black community.& Currently,I am not involved with anyone who is colorstruck but that doesn't mean I'm going to turn a blind eye to the rac00ns who try to degrade dark skin black women.

How does it effect you?

It affects me because y'all & the black community at large expects the same dark skin black women who a number of black men sh*t on to be their allies.Y'all expect dark skin black women to "fight," against racism meanwhile they hate dark skin black women just as much as they hate white men. :what: & I'm not accepting that.

- why does the black mans "obsession" over light skinned women need to be discussed when you don't care? where is this constantly berating of black women taking place outside of your head?

- here we go with the rap music defense. besides the two rappers that are always on the tip of your tongues (wayne and berg), who are all these rappers insulting black women? funny part is rappers are some how dissing yall when in another instance, they aren't even acknowledging yall cus they're too busy praising "xyz" women.

news flash, colorism has existed for hundreds of years in this country, rap music is only 35-40 yrs old tops.

- chick, this is not kumbaya, this is war. y'all love to link up and pretend there's solidarity with light skinned/biracial women until there's a beauty contest. then yall are hell on all these "light skinned bytches that think they cute"

third time asking, what is there to discuss? colorism exist, women are affected as well, even though you want to pretend its strictly a black male issue. but once again, what is there to discuss exactly? you wont be able to speak it away with harsh words and wagging your finger in disgust.

You act as we are the cause of the whole color issue.
When we face the same issues as you.

White owned Corporation push that garbage slave rap ya'll been listen for the last 15 years. STOP listening to that trash!:mindblown:

No they don't, women in competition for male attention pit themselves against each other. Does a lightskin/mixed girl stand a better chance at getting male attention in white world? YES!

Do you think that light skinned girls are aware of this? Yes!

Are dark skinned girls aware of this too? Yes!

Does this unfair but real premise make some them lash out at light skinned women and even sometimes white women? YES!

So it is not all Black men as you say. Many Dark skinned people (male and female) aren't happen being born with Black skin because of the life long social inequalities. There more that one factor at play here.

You're saying "beautiful," dark skin women need to be promoted against light skin women?:what: Why do they need to be put against each other period?& Please stop this I want to have mixed children non-sense.

:rudy:Let's be real: Colorism will not effect you as adversely as full on racism will. It may make you FEEL uncomfortable but it not as devastating to your over all well being as racism is.

Beverage Fridge, 3rd Row!!
Colorism is a big issue because it plays into the white supremacist mindset tht anything closer to white is better. It has to be addressed because there are women who have low self worth because of their skin color.

We MUST uplift our women and teach them that their black is beautiful because the media tells them otherwise. A sizable portion of black men have internalized those sentiments and are a huge detriment to our community.

How are we supposed to overcome white supremacy when a lot of black people dont even LOVE themselves?!?!?!?!?!?

why do some of you refuse to admit that sometimes there is no cynical move behind liking a lightskinned woman?
