I hear you, but the momentum/emotional aspect feels more relevant when teams are down 14 and take the go for two approach to try and setup the win with an extra point scenario on the second score.

Down 15 with that little time left it's very cut and dry, you need a 2 no matter what. The defense having motivation and opposing offense feeling pressure to convert just don't impact the bottom line enough. Nothing else matters if you fail the attempt whether it's on the first or second try, so when you do it just doesn’t feel consequential enough to move the needle.

It changes the way the opposition plays though. Chicago, being up 9, knows they can be more aggressive with their play calling to ice the game.

If it's 4th and 1 at their own 30, they can go for it and try to clinch the game. If they get stopped, no biggie, because Philly still needs two scores.

But if Chicago is up only 8, they may not go for it on 4th and 1 because if they get stopped, Philly can tie it on Philly's next possession.

That's the thing, once you don't get the two the game is iced regardless. Becoming a 2 score deficit at that point is irrelevant because there's not enough time left for it to matter.

Let's say they kick the extra point to make it an 8 point game. Kick it off, Bears run it twice to set up a 3rd down, 3rd down they call a bootleg and don't convert. Eagles get the ball back and score a TD with under a minute left. Does any of that change what the game comes down to? The 2PT attempt still makes or breaks everything, and that isn't impacted whether it's done after the first score or second.
