This couldnt be any further from the truth, and I say so because Africans have told me otherwise out of their own mouth.

In Africa it is a lot harder to make it but the potential rewards are far greater...

there are a million and one Africans with degrees driving cabs or mopping floors in the western world, how come they couldnt make it?

there is a reason why millions of people are trying to live in the west...

I have live there and I do business there......I not in the business of selling people pipe dreams .....im in the business of giving you a dose of reality...

for example people are asking the cost of places to stay....did you know that in Nigeria its common practice to pay rent two years upfront.....so how many of you got that money lying around?

did you know that the capital of Angola is more expensive than New York?

So the business you wanna start.... how much exactly do you have to put towards it?

I could go on and on....people are acting as if you just turn up, pitch up your tent and make money...... Im telling you its not that simple

like I said the rewards are greater but you will have to work a lot harder than you are now.... and if you basically aint about shyt in the US you will be the same in Africa because you wont get a pass....

Simply put a degree from an American or European institution is looked upon with greater prestige than a degree from an African institution. It's the same reason an African who studies in the US and goes back to their native land will often be in better shape than the African who studied there or in a neighboring country on the continent. Some people have connections, some dont. That can mean all the difference from working a nice paying job or driving cabs. Again everything I say with regards to Africa has been told to me by the people, nothing else in your post applied to me, your form of business is not applicable to everybody.

Great thread. I love documentaries like this.

I'm studying finance and business administration with the (insane?) dream of owning my own bank. Perhaps I can start a bank in South Africa and help some of you guys out?

Good thread, I did a bit of research about water and food security in the global south and it's amazing at what a few hundred/thousand dollars can do in terms of providing resources for a community or small town. I hope they along with more people support these kinds of programs :salute:

I can cosign this. My ex was Indian and her moms got her medical degree in India and when she came here she wasn't allowed to practice medicine. Foreign degrees are pretty much worthless in the states.

my friend an degree abroad doesnt cut any ice anymore , that was in the 90s....

millions of people have degrees from foreign institutions, American and European Universities are filled with African students....

Im giving you a real dose of reality because Ive seen too many people turn up without a plan or exceptional skills and fail...

foreign degrees are ten a penny......

And my form of business isnt my only form of business, you do understand that for me to raise $3,000,000 I have a proven track record right?

for you to say its not applicable is wrong my friend.....you are using hearsay to argue with someone that has first hand experience.....

Anyone that wants to come to Africa understand that there are 58 different countries and they are NOT the same..... doing business in Ghana is different from doing business in Tanzania

Have something to bring to the field, expertise , money, connections, or a great idea and a fantastic work ethic..... if you are just gonna turn up with a degree thinking that because you are an American you are headed straight for the top you are in for a shock, at best you will end up working for a multinational company that would probably offer you better conditions back home.....you have to remember Africans first preference will be to hire another African where possible

best thing is always to look for a gap in the market (and there are many gaps) and take it from there....

you can make a lot of money in Africa and there is no glass ceiling but Im extremely fed up of people selling unrealistic ideals

You post contradiction after contradiction, lose the smileys and reevaluate your posts.

you seem to be the only one that sees these contradictions...what i have said is quite plain and simple based upon my experience, of family, close friends and people I know...not hearsay.......

If i were a foreigner wanted to move to the US im pretty sure most people would say its the land of opportunity.....If you can make it here you can make it anywhere.... Im pretty sure people would use Bill Gates or Zuckerberg as an example of how you can go from nothing to a billionaire......The US is one of if not the greatest place to live on earth with the best standard of living..... and they would be right

But we both know its not that simple...... its a lot more complex than the picture being put forward...

This is the very point I am trying to show you

What the fukk.

I can't believe people are arguing in here.

We should be exchanging ideas and collaborating with each other with the expressed purpose of self betterment. Instead you all are arguing like angry, fat bytches in a hair salon.

Grow up.

:whoa:

my problem was you say this

If you cannot make it in Europe or the States you definitely wont make it in Africa

Then you go on to explain the elaborate complexity of the 58 different countries within Africa. We can't say if you dont make it in America you have no shot in 50 some odd countries. The drive for each individual is different, some people just aint cut out for the American lifestyle, especially if you arent your own boss. You said it best yourself

Have something to bring to the field, expertise , money, connections, or a great idea and a fantastic work ethic.....

If you take all the above qualities why can't someone who hasnt done it in the US or Europe go to Africa and be successful, as they define success? I highly doubt anybody here thinks they're going to go anywhere on this Earth and receive handouts for being from a certain country, as you imply. Everyone understands there's a certain level of worth ethic, capital, and innovation that must go into operating in another country.
