How about just putting down the phone and focus on playing ballYou're right.
But at the same time I think it's fair to acknowledge that message boards, blogs and chatrooms weren't nearly as impactful in terms of spreading and shaping narratives as modern social media has been.
I mean in 2005, newspapers and television were still the big drivers of perception around pro athletes.
I don't necessarily agree that Lebron was the first superstar athlete of the social media era. That kind of label could be applied to other people...maybe Lionel Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo or someone else. But I do think it's fair to say that ALL modern athletes are under far more criticism in the current social media age than any athlete before it. Athletes of the past had the benefit of being protected and built up to some degree by a much more cooperative media apparatus.
The very site that published this dumb ass list was founded in 2005 and HEAVILY driven by user created content and gave voice to the everyday fan. It used to be WILD articles on that site and I can remember a time when if someone posted a BR link on SOHH/AHH, that shyt got an eye roll from the majority of posters. But at the same time I think it's fair to acknowledge that message boards, blogs and chatrooms weren't nearly as impactful in terms of spreading and shaping narratives as modern social media has been.

I vaguely remember the early days of Bleacher Report. I thought all the content there was posted by random people. I remember being shocked that CNN or somebody bought it for millions. The very site that published this dumb ass list was founded in 2005 and HEAVILY driven by user created content and gave voice to the everyday fan. The Pistons did it 2x right before MJ.
I wouldn't call Laimbeer and Mahorn superstar bigs.
MJ was being entered into the GOAT talk before the Bulls actually won anything...so the proof of concept wasn't even there.
Advanced stats seem to favor MJ slightly over LeBron. Bron obviously has the counting stats and a much longer peak. MJ had a higher peak.
I think Bron's issue is authenticity. People loved MJ because "what you see is what you get." He was a ultra competitive, borderline psycho and owned that shyt. Bron should have stopped trying to be MJ 2.0 and just wore the supervillain mask. Kobe became way more popular when he ditched the clean cut Sprite image and embraced the Mamba Mentality stuff.
and the Bulls built an entire dynasty around MJ, not 2 year run at the end of the Lakers-Celtics run.
I’m a believer, let’s see what he does with itYou mean like Wemby?
I didn't know you were a fan.

Lebron made the finals for five years straight while Kobe was still in the league. He had plenty of opportunities to make that shyt a reality.FOH Kobe got to the finals and destroyed the team that eliminated LeBron. LeBron’s puppet failed to face Kobe for the chip
These lists are primarily about offensive skill, so I can see why some are ranked as high as they are. Since we’re talking about offensive skill, LeBron has played all these years and has fourteen 50 point games. While Jordan has 31. LeBron has seventy-eight 40 point games. While Jordan has 173. LeBron has one lone 60 point game. While Jordan has four. LeBron has one 50 point playoff game, while Jordan has 8.
I mean, WTF are we even talking about? LeBron has had a tremendous career, but I hate when dudes like Gilbert Arenas say, “Oh, LeBron’s had the best career of all-time.” HOW? What metrics and measures are we even talking about? Because Jordan is lapping dude in most categories. I saw both of them play and Jordan was so much more of an explosive scorer than LeBron it’s damn near laughable.
And LeBron is a GOAT. He is probably 2/3 all-time, but this LeBron is THE GOAT shyt is rubbish.
@ this dumb shyt
exhibit 1Kobe has the only fanbase that downplays his teammates. You yourselves know that Kobe doesn't belong in a GOAT conversation, with these arguments & narratives that you come up with.

Jordan has 200 more games with 25+ FGA than Lebron (419 vs. 222), 100 more games with 30+ FGA than Lebron (132 vs. 34), and 30 more games with 35+ FGA than Lebron (31 vs. 4). All of that accounts for 17% of Lebron's total games vs. 55% of Jordan's total games. Conversely, LeBron has 14 seasons over 7 APG vs MJ’s one. Lebron still has more 30 point games than Jordan and surpassed him in total scoring on less attempts.
Most of Jordan's offensive value derived from scoring while Lebron has always been a pick your poison type of player with elite passing and scoring chops. He's never been branded as an explosive volume scorer but that doesn't mean he isn't a better overall offensive player. Just like KD is a better overall scorer than Magic Johnson, for example, but isn't the better offensive player. Or Shai might be a better volume scorer than Jokic but Jokic's playmaking, game managing, and elite scoring ability in his own right makes him the better overall player.
Jordan stans always post the most reductive shyt that isn't rooted in any statistical analysis. Silly shyt like when dude said Wizards Jordan is better than current Bron and would be as good as prime Kawhi if he was playing today![]()
. Additionally, if LeBron had the same exact number of 25 FGA attempts games as Jordan he still would not have the same amount of 40/50/60 point games as Jordan. Let’s be fukking serious. One of them is clearly a way more dynamic offensive player than the other. Like Mario Chalmers said, ain’t nobody afraid of LeBron James like that
.
. Imagine thinking a man who got locked up by J.J. Barea and outplayed by goddamn Jason Terry in the NBA Finals is the greatest basketball player to ever play the game. Imagine watching a dude throw the NBA Finals because he wasn’t going to be MVP and still claiming he’s the GOAT
.
. Imagine a dude whose signature move is looking to his hand before he shoots a brick is the greatest player of all time. Imagine watching the greatest basketball player of all time play in four Olympic Games and without “inferior” players, such as Kobe and Curry, dude would have one bronze, two silvers, and one gold. That’s your king?!?! I could go on and on.
? You’re going to let your life be decided by a jumper after looking at his hand?
.
Imagine thinking a man who got locked up by J.J. Barea
There’s nothing wrong with Bron being number 2 or 3 all time. Accept it now because that’s never changing@ this dumb shyt
