yes it can bruh. You can program logic into the car where other functionality will degrade or outright shutoff IF the cars doesnt have a persistent network connection. Thats how all "As a Service" models work. The second you disconnect from the internet, functionality ceases as a lot of core services dont exist locally on the machine, they are pulled down from the Cloud.

for sure. But its not just persistent cell service, the networked device has to "report" in to some sort of manager regularly as well I imagine for some functionality to fully cease (like the situation you just described)

I use to get excited about the prospect of the future but crap like this just ruins the user experience.

XM is a seperate service. Built in hardware with a soft lockout is bullshyt. All this software licensing is going to impact the used market as well. Do these licenses transfer? I doubt it.
