The Wrong Side of the Tracks
Some of y'all don't realize just how deep this 'sampling' thing goes. Way back, when I was a teenager, there was an MC named 'Shan' who made a record sampling a very well-known cartoon punch-line. About a year later, the track with that sample appeared on the album, but the sample was absent..........

Those of us who had the 12" were CONFUSED AS FUKK, we didn't know what was going on........until Biz Markie came and crushed the buildings a few years later.

There are SOOOOO many tracks from back then that would never have been made had the laws currently in-existence been in-effect back then.

Them Lo Lifes...
Stones Throws' fault.
Actually, it's the production companies fault. They have to clear samples before submitting final compositions.

What a record company look like going over every artists song on their roster to see if samples are cleared?

Somewhat. I don't know how the infrastructure works, but I know how a standard production agreement works.

School me on Stones Throw sample clearance procedures..

I wouldn't know where to begin, I don't what you know about Stones Throw. Why would you apply the standard production agreement to Stones Throw? Stones Throw is essentially Peanut Butter Wolf, Egon (till 2011ish, when he decided to his own thing with Now Again) and a few other people in the background (J.Rocc and ect., not sure about their level of involvement on the business side but they are always around Wolf and Madlib). Madlib makes beats/songs in his bunker and gives them to Wolf to hold onto (for a release or shop around, there might be an intermediary but I doubt it).
