But since you're here, I'll ask. If I'm trying to get started --safely--, is investing in index funds the best route? Or should I approach it differently?
i just started myself a month ago :dead:

as far as i can tell, yeah. that FXAIX has a .015 percent expense ratio, so it's almost free. i opened a brokerage with them and the chick told me to start with that one

i guess it's up like 13 percent this year, typical 10% index fund

Damn. It's like $100 a share. I guess I would buy 1 share then. :francis:

Took that L and sold Tesla. Overall I'll just use those losses to offset my capital gains on. Overall I'm still positive for the year even with major screwups like Tesla and Lyft. I could have rode Tesla back to recovery but I feel so much better having sold it. I followed them too closely and every other day it was some BS from them in the news. They're too volatile for me. I have other stocks I'm down on like Verizon and it doesn't bother me but Tesla did. Probably because I bought them gassed up off Financial Education off YouTube instead of it being something I came up with myself. I should have bought Elf when he did and not Tesla.

Comcast, AT&T, Verizon they all let me down. Maybe I should have kept Charter.

Yeah looks like Telco took a hit.

Tesla is too much of a spec stock for me, or rather it's too much for me to take the risk.

My strongest stock right now is Facebook follows by Alibaba. Verizon dropped about 4% for me but it could be a good time to buy. Aurora Cannabis is remaining steady right now.

Sold both Google and Amazon. I only had one share of each and was up 10-15% on both. Amazon didn't really pop after earnings and I figured Google wouldn't either.I also sold 4 shares of Apple I bought at $200 for basically almost no profit. Cost basis on Apple dropped to $170. I took all those proceeds on Fidelity and bought 14 shares of IVV since it's commission free. I'll just park the money there till I need it.
