Lotta fair points. I guess I’m just taking my personal preference and running it into the ground. My bad G.

I like a whole lot more drumless beats than you’d probably imagine based on how I post about them. And Brick Van Exel is my favorite beat on here and I agree drums would ruin it.

At this point you’re right, I guess. They aren’t there to add variety. They used to be the exception to the rule and were unique.

I think I’m just salty over 2 things.

1. A kid with a ton of social media clout seems to be riding a wave and just doing mad lazy ass loops. It seems like he’s just trying to be trendy, but whatever. The final product ain’t bad once I stop comparing it to Boldy’s previous 3 projects this year.

2. To a lesser extent, I’ve been salty that a style I liked has on some level been run into the ground from overuse (much like my crusade lol).

So I’ll chill and fall back. :hubie: Daps and rep for the quality discussion. I appreciate the debate.

EDIT: And for certain emcees that paint really vivid pictures and tell good stories (Boldy on Carruth for example) I think no drums really accentuate the lyrics.

lol it's all love, breh. And I understand your view point but sometimes you just gotta accept trends in music. It's all a cycle anyway. Drums will come back in heavy at some point.

And this Jay Versace dude could do the same lazy loops but add some trash drums he got from a drum pack and it wouldn't make it any more impressive.

Very disappointed with this one. The Price Of Tea In China was excellent from start to finish, while I’m struggling to find one decent song on here.

It’s been said before in this thread, but I have to repeat that the beats are indeed trash.

I've been saying that Tea in China reminds me of modern Detroit version of Reasonable Doubt, and for Jay to be a fan of it, and for Boldy to even reference Reasonable Doubt bars on Bernadines and Snort is dope to me.(@savoutch )

Reasonable Doubt is my fav album, and I absolutely love Tea In China, so you might be on to something. I can definitely see the similarities now. :ohhh:

Yeah breh! Once I heard someone mention the similarities I couldn't get it out of my head. Jay has even said that Reasonable Doubt is a mix of braggadocios tales of a hustler and crime life, but with bits of remorse sprinkles throughout. And that's what separates it from a lot of other street talk/tales of a hustler type albums.

That mix of storytelling, "seen it all" veteran tales, and especially the remorse for those past actions is all over Tea in China.

I've heard people compare Boldy to Prodigy before, and definitely you can hear it in the voice. And Alchemist says their personalities are similar too.

But one thing I don't hear is that P was the king of dropping those simple but forceful, hard-hitting opening bars (@mobbinfms ). See the opening bars of Sook Ones, Survival, Hell on Earth, Keep It Thoro, Quiet Storm, the list goes on and on.

Boldy has a lot of similar style cold ass opening bars.

- I used to get confused, choosing my battles wisely...
- Well spoken on some dudes that been jail broken...
- We come through like Green Beret Marines...
- The more you sweat in training, the less you bleed in combat...
- I was young and ill advised...
- Better have my money by Monday, been a month of Sunday's...
- I'm on a road not taken so it's less traveled...

Not necessarily lyrical/miracle shyt, but simple and strong.
this is a fire post...

gza said it best...."make it brief son...half short and twice strong"

boldy is on a hellua run right now.
